Job summary

Brightshores Health System in Owen Sound is seeking a part-time Registered Nurse in Surgical Services. The role involves promoting health, assessing patient needs, providing perioperative and postoperative care, and facilitating safe patient transport when required.

Required are Ontario RN registration, two years of recent surgical experience, venipuncture ability, central line care, and experience with IV medications, PCA pumps, and TPN.

Qualifications

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario or eligibility.
• Formal training in physical assessment.
• Minimum two years of surgical experience in the last five years.
• Venipuncture to establish IV access.
• IV medications administered below the drip chamber.
• Central line care including tubing, dressings, removal, and blood sampling.
• Care for patients with epidural analgesia and PCA pumps.
• TPN management and negative pressure therapy.
• Self-directed with minimal supervision and strong communication.
• Ability to adapt to changing patient needs and escort patients via ambulance when required.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Commitment to patient safety and continuous professional development.

Responsibilities

• Promote health and assess patients to provide comprehensive surgical care.
• Deliver preventive and therapeutic nursing services to support patient recovery.
• Escort patients via ambulance as required and ensure safe transport.
• Maintain patient safety and uphold Brightshores CARE and LEAD values.
• Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and patients.

STATUS: PART-TIME, TEMPORARY (APPROX. END DATE MAY 2027)

WAGE RATE: $40.24 - $57.68

Reporting to the Manager of Surgical Services, the responsibility of the Registered Nurse is the promotion of health and the assessment of, the provision of care of, and the treatment of health conditions by supportive, preventative, therapeutic, palliative and rehabilitative means to surgical patients in order to attain or maintain optimal function.

Required

• Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario registration or eligibility
• Physical Assessment course
• Current surgical experience with a minimum of two years within the last five years
• Venipunctures to establish an IV required
• IV medications below the drip chamber
• Central line care - including tubing, dressing change ,line removal and blood sampling
• Management and care of patients will epidural analgesia
• Management and care of P.C.A. pumps
• Maintenance of TPN
• Management of Negative Pressure Therapy
• Self directed and able to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing population and patient needs
• Willingness to escort patients via ambulance services when required

Preferred

• Baccalaureate Degree in nursing
• Post-Anesthetic Course
• Additional Education pertaining to surgery/medicine
• Broad surgical experience preferred with experience in all sub-specialties
