Volunteer Opportunities

The Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre stands as the sole dedicated pediatric hospital in Newfoundland and Labrador, offering a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient services to meet the unique healthcare needs of children and adolescents.

  • Audiology
    Assist audiologists in their offices, observing their work and gaining insight into the field. Positions are reserved for post‑secondary students applying to graduate programs in audiology due to limited space.
  • Clerical/Office Support
    Support healthcare and administrative staff in various clinic and office areas with a variety of clerical tasks.
  • Friendly Visiting
    Provide companionship and support to patients and residents through activities such as conversation, reading, games, puzzles, and mealtime assistance.
  • Fundraising
    Participate in fundraising activities such as selling tickets or organizing used book sales to generate revenue for patient and resident care.
  • Gift Shop
    Aid in the operation of the gift shop, with funds raised used to purchase medical equipment and comfort items for patients.
  • Library Cart
    Distribute reading material to patients and residents in nursing units, promoting intellectual stimulation and relaxation.
  • Music/Entertainment
    Share musical talents by providing entertainment to residents and patients, brightening their days with joyful performances.
  • NICU Greeter
    Welcome visitors to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and ensure they are approved visitors before admitting them.
  • Speech Language Pathology
    Assist speech‑language pathologists in their offices, observing their work and learning more about the field. Positions are reserved for post‑secondary students applying to graduate programs in speech‑language pathology due to limited space.
  • Therapeutic Recreation
    Assist with various leisure and recreational activities, including musical events, movies, board games, and seasonal events throughout the year.
  • Way Finder
    Assist patients and visitors in navigating the hospital and finding their appointments.
