Job summary

CFMWS in Ottawa is seeking a Mess Supervisor (Hospitality Supervisor) to deliver outstanding customer experiences at military messes. You will apply your hospitality leadership and operational know-how to plan events, supervise staff, and ensure smooth bar service while upholding safety standards.

This on-site role requires attention to detail, strong communication with CAF members and families, and the ability to manage schedules, inventory, and cash handling.

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Hospitality or Food & Beverage Management, or related field with hospitality service experience.
  • Must be of legal age to serve alcohol in Ontario.
  • Must possess Responsible Service of Alcohol certification in Ontario.
  • Ontario Driver’s Licence is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, supervise mess activities, bar service and operations.
  • Supervise and train employees, prepare work schedules for payroll.
  • Ensure health, hygiene and safety requirements.
  • Interact with clientele, take orders and assist with setup and takedown of events.

THE ROLE

As a Mess Supervisor (Hospitality Supervisor), you provide an excellent customer experience in our military messes. During big events to every day moments, you will build a rapport with the military community while utilizing your operational and hospitality experience. Military messes are places where Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members come together to socialize and foster morale.

The Mess Supervisor (Hospitality Supervisor) provides hands-on assistance in planning, organizing, supervising mess activities, bar service and mess operations. You will supervise and train employees, prepare work schedules and ensure their accuracy for payroll. You will ensure strict requirements for health, hygiene and safety. You will interact directly with clientele, taking orders and assisting with set up and take down of functions.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED
Education, Certifications and Licenses
  • College diploma or certificate in Hospitality or Food and Beverage Management, or related field AND some years of experience in hospitality and food and beverage service
  • Must be of legal age to serve alcohol Ontario
  • Must possess a Responsible Service of Alcohol certification Ontario
  • Ontario Valid Driver’s Licence, an asset

  • In providing hospitality and bar operations services
  • In budget administration
  • In cash handling
  • In preparing bank deposits and floats
  • In event planning and organizing
  • In inventory control
  • In personnel administration
