Position Summary
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Manager, HR is accountable for labour relations, employee relations, and day-to-day operations of human resources. The Manager, HR is a part of the Plant Management team working closely with the Plant Manager and other functional leaders to deliver on plant priorities as well as develop and implement innovative HR strategies and initiatives.
Key Accountabilities
- Designs and executes HR solutions that align with plant priorities;
- Interprets policies and CBA and provides guidance to plant management;
- Manages labour relations, including counselling line management and employees to achieve resolutions;
- Prepares and attends to the grievance process;
- Recommends resolutions to grievances and / or the escalation to arbitration; assists in the preparation of arbitration;
- Leads investigations of issues; makes recommendations in the resolution of issues; documents all investigations and follows up on outcomes;
- Identifies, develops, and delivers training / communications to supervisors, lead hands, and hourly employees, including mandatory annual training;
- Interprets CBA for payroll and benefits administration;
- Manages Labour / Management Meetings, including scheduling and follow-up documentation;
- Assists and prepares for CBA negotiations;
- Manages recruitment and job postings for hourly vacancies and salaried plant positions;
- Manages non-occupational Disability Program and Return to Work Program;
- Analyzes labour data and makes appropriate recommendations;
- Participates in Plant Management meetings, offering insights and solutions on HR issues affecting the plant / business;
- Designs and develops individual development plans supporting succession planning;
- Develops and establishes Sofina HR processes for the plant, such as total rewards and talent assessment policies and practices;
- Develops and implements HR strategies and initiatives aligned with plant goals;
- Leads onboarding programs;
- Models and coaches facility leaders on Blueprint values;
- Provides strategic input into Health and Safety programs and initiatives, supporting H&S efforts;
- Implements or oversees implementation of corporate initiatives and participates in corporate meetings to identify opportunities.
Requirements
- A minimum of 7 years experience in an HR Operations Role;
- A University or college degree in Business, Labour Relations, Human Resources, or equivalent experience;
- Thorough knowledge of Labour Relations, Human Rights, and Employment Standards;
- Analytical skills with the ability to make and execute recommendations;
- Positive attitude and commitment to results;
- Excellent relationship-building skills across all organizational levels;
- Passion for creating a healthy work environment and fostering a strong, winning culture;
- Thorough knowledge of procedures, practices, and techniques used in collective bargaining and grievance negotiations;
- Recruitment experience for hourly and salaried positions;
