Description

ActiveState is seeking a skilled Senior HR Manager to manage all aspects of our HR function. This role is responsible for driving HR initiatives, enhancing organizational effectiveness and is critical in fostering a high-performing, inclusive, and engaged workplace culture that supports our mission to deliver innovative solutions to our customers.

Reporting to the CFO, you will manage culture-building initiatives, performance management, compliance and employee relations. You will act as a trusted advisor to leadership and a champion for employees, ensuring that HR policies and practices align with the company’s goals and values.

This position is available to remote workers anywhere in Western North America.

About You
As a results-driven, hands-on HR professional, you bring a demonstrated ability to execute impactful people strategies within dynamic, fast-paced organizations. You have a deep sense of ownership and are highly accountable, with strong attention to detail. You thrive in environments that require adaptability and creativity, and you are always looking for ways to enhance effectiveness and employee engagement. You have a deep understanding of HR best practices and regulations in Canada and the US

You are approachable, empathetic, and solutions-oriented, with a natural ability to balance employee needs and business goals. Your experience in a remote-first SaaS or tech industry gives you unique insights into the challenges and opportunities of supporting a dynamic, innovative team.





Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HR initiatives that align with our core values and goals, and enhance employee performance, engagement and business outcomes
  • Develop, implement and manage best practice HR policies, processes and procedures balancing company objectives and compliance requirements while providing a great employee experience and achieving business outcomes
  • Evolve HR policies and procedures to reflect company values
  • Design and implement ongoing employee training and awareness programs on company values
  • Design and manage full cycle performance review and calibration programs, including goal setting, employee development plans and manager training
  • Develop career path frameworks, including job family mapping, to ensure all employees have clear and achievable growth opportunities
  • Manage all aspects of employee onboarding and offboarding, with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Design and manage employee engagement and recognition initiatives that support company values and business outcomes
  • Manage and optimize HR systems and tools, identifying opportunities for automation and process improvement to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
  • Develop and implement initiatives to promote an equitable, diverse and inclusive workplace culture
  • Manage and administer best practice compensation (including system administration), benefits and rewards programs to attract, motivate and retain top talent
  • Develop and present regular reports to leadership on HR initiatives and their impact, including tracking and reporting on key metrics
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices and recommend opportunities for improvement
  • Ensure ActiveState complies with all Canadian and US labour laws, regulations and reporting requirements, proactively addressing HR related legal and compliance issues.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employees, addressing concerns and fostering open communication
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Master’s degree or HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, with experience in both Canadian and US operating environments
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and US employment and labour laws, regulations, and best practices
  • Experience in the SaaS or technology industry and remote-first environment
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and tools; familiarity with modern tech and remote work tools is a plus
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and digital document management tools
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Empathetic, approachable, and solution-oriented
  • Strong leadership and team-building capabilities
  • Analytical mindset with a data-driven approach to problem-solving
  • Comfortable with change and capable of pivoting quickly in dynamic work settings
