Reporting to Director of People & Organizational Development. The Employee Supports Manager (Wîcihitowikamik) oversees the human resources and employee wellness functions, ensuring a positive and equitable experience across the employee life cycle. Working collaboratively with leaders, the Employee Supports Manager provides guidance on HR best practices, problem-solving, and risk mitigation while promoting a culture of wellness and continuous improvement. The role will contribute to effective performance management, recruitment, and wellness initiatives. A focus of this role is ensuring that Indigenous perspectives are incorporated into the organizational policies and practices of Employee Supports, working with internal cultural teams and knowledge keepers.

Position Responsibilities
  • Oversee employee onboarding and ensure compliance with legislative and accreditation requirements
  • Coordinate recruitment initiatives, including job fairs and hiring for the employee supports team
  • Review and maintain HR policies, integrating best practices and Indigenous ways of knowing and being
  • Collaborate with Elders and Knowledge Keepers to embed Indigenous knowledge into HR practices, the employee life cycle, and wellness programs
  • Identify and address risks and gaps in HR procedures for continuous improvement
  • Work with payroll on HRIS updates; ensure accurate job descriptions and data integrity
  • Supervise leave, WCB, and termination processes, ensuring compliance and cultural consideration
  • Manage compensation plans, including wage bands, policies, and management training
  • Stay current on HR trends, legislation, and inclusive practices
  • Lead training initiatives, manage government grants, and foster university partnerships
  • Support performance management and employee development through equitable and culturally grounded approaches
  • Lead the HR team with a compassionate, culturally safe approach, offering regular check-ins and supervision
  • Review team timecards and expenses; support resolution of escalated HR concerns
  • Contribute to internal HR reporting and participate in leadership meetings
  • Build partnerships with Indigenous communities and external organizations
  • Support organizational and HR projects aligned with cultural safety and reconciliation
  • Note: BSCS is more than a workplace; it is a community where everyone helps and contributes, with expectations for employees to participate in events such as fundraising, community meals, medicine picking, etc., during work hours and occasionally evenings and weekends.
Qualifications
  • Degree or diploma in HR Management or a related field. Candidates without a degree but with extensive relevant experience will also be considered
  • 1 year’s experience in a leadership role (preferred)
  • 5-7 years’ experience at the HR Generalist or HRBP level
  • CPHR designation or working towards it (preferred)
  • Experience in social services or a non-profit environment (asset)
  • Police Check with the Vulnerable Sector and Child and Youth Intervention Check completed within the past six months
  • Valid First Aid certificate or enrolled in a future course
  • Some travel to other sites throughout the region required
  • Experience with and knowledge of Indigenous culture and ceremonies (asset)
