Job summary

Interfor is offering an on-site Maintenance/Quality Intern position in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The role partners with experienced professionals to build practical skills and drive real improvements in a busy mill environment.

You’ll learn how maintenance, quality control, and production align to safely produce quality wood products. The internship runs 4–8 months starting May 2027, with competitive intern compensation and a living allowance.

Responsibilities

  • Learn maintenance, quality control, and production roles for safe, quality wood products.
  • Support maintenance planning, troubleshooting, or process improvements.
  • Collect data and complete quality-control surveys across the mill.
  • Analyze data to identify quality, efficiency, uptime, or cost improvements.
  • Assist with documentation, reporting, and site improvement projects.
  • Collaborate with employees across teams on-site and in the office.

Thisis an on-site internship with an anticipated start date in May 2027. Ideally,you’ll be available for a 4-8month term.

  • Salariesstarting from$3,350 per month(based on your year inschool and previous experience).
  • Temporaryliving allowanceforinterns moving to the area for the role.
What You’ll Do
  • Learn how maintenance, quality control, and production teams work together to safely produce quality wood products.
  • Support equipment reliability, maintenance planning, troubleshooting, or mechanical process improvements.
  • Complete quality-control surveys and collect operational or Key Performance Indicator data across areas of the mill.
  • Analyze production, process, or equipment information and helpidentifyopportunities to improve quality, efficiency, uptime, or cost performance.
  • Assist with documentation, reporting, benchmarks, recommendations, or site improvement projects.
  • Work with employees, crews, and site leaders while gaining experience both on the mill floor and in the office.
What You Offer
  • You are working toward a degree or diploma in Engineering, Wood Products Processing, Forestry Operations Management, Operations, or another industry-related program.You are committed tomaintaininga safe work environment without compromise.
  • You are naturally curious, analytical, and interested in hands-on work in an industrial setting.
  • You can organize and interpret data, solve problems, and communicate findings clearly.
  • You collaborate effectively with employees across teams and departments.
  • You are comfortable using Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; mechanical aptitude or manufacturing experience is an asset.
  • You are prepared to work in a mill environment that may include noise, changing temperatures, stairs, ladders, catwalks, and uneven surfaces.
