Job summary

Tata Consultancy Services Canada Inc. is hiring a Mainframe Developer to contribute across core IBM mainframe technologies. You will work on JCL, PL/I, COBOL, CICS, IMS DC/DB, DB2, SQL Server, and REXX, handling enhancement, maintenance, incident resolution and modernization tasks.

The role requires hands-on experience in batch and online processing, debugging, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. Toronto-based, full-time position with a focus on reliability and performance.

Role Description:

We are hiring a Mainframe Developer with strong hands-on development andsupport experience across core IBM mainframe technologies. The ideal candidatewill possess working expertise in JCL, PL/I, COBOL, CICS, IMS DC/DB, IBM DB2,SQL Server, and REXX tools, and will be comfortable working in enhancement,maintenance, incident resolution, and modernization-support scenarios.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, enhance, test, and support applica tions built on IBM mainframetechnologies.
• Develop and maintain batch and online programs using COBOL and/or PL/I withJCL-based scheduling and execution logic.
• Work with CICS transaction programs and IMS DC / IMS DB components for onlineand database processing.
• Develop, tune, and troubleshoot DB2-based programs, SQL queries, storedlogic, and data access routines.
• Support interfaces or reporting solutions involving SQL Server where requiredin the application ecosystem.
• Use REXX and related tooling for automation, utilities, diagnostics, andproductivity improvements.
• Perform root-cause analysis for production incidents, implement bug fixes,and support release / deployment activities.
• Participate in impact analysis, code reviews, unit testing, system testingsupport, and documentation updates.
• Collaborate with business analysts, testers, infrastructure teams, anddownstream / upstream application teams.
• Contribute to application stability, performance improvements, technical debtreduction, and modernization-readiness activities.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, orequivalent practical experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with JCL, PL/I, COBOL, CICS, IMS DC/DB, IBM DB2,SQL Server, and REXX.
• Experience in production support, problem determination, defect fixes, andenhancement delivery in a controlled enterprise environment.
• Good understanding of batch processing, online transaction processing,datasets, file structures, job scheduling, and environment promotion.
• Ability to read and analyze legacy code, identify dependencies, and implementsafe changes with minimal business disruption.
• Working knowledge of SDLC, change management, release processes, anddocumentation practices.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

• Exposure to insurance, banking, or other high-volume regulated enterpriseenvironments.
• Experience with source control, DevOps / deployment tooling, mainframeutilities, and job scheduling products.
• Familiarity with modernization initiatives such as API enablement, dataextraction, service integration, or code refactoring.
• Knowledge of performance tuning, data reconciliation, and interface supportacross distributed systems.
