Job summary

Astra-North Infoteck Inc. in Toronto is seeking a Senior Mainframe Developer to lead IBM Mainframe projects with COBOL, JCL, DB2 and IMS expertise.

The role requires independent problem solving, mentoring junior developers, and end-to-end field mapping with unit testing and deployment in a fast-paced pod environment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, ensure code quality, and drive modernization efforts using Endevor and related tooling.

Qualifications

• Expertise in IBM Mainframe stack: JCL, COBOL, SQL, DB2, Endevor.
• Experience with tools Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow and INSYNC.
• AI awareness with GitHub Copilot and VS Code.
• Ability to analyze IMS Segments and lead design and deployment.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development for IBM Mainframe applications, including COBOL, JCL and DB2.
• Analyze IMS segments, map field structures, and develop unit-tested code for deployment.
• Mentor junior developers and collaborate across pods to deliver end-to-end solutions.

Job Title: Senior Mainframe Developer (IBM Mainframe, COBOL, JCL, DB2, IMS)

Skills Required

• Tech stack – IBM Mainframe: JCL, COBOL, SQL, DB2, Endevor, File-AID, CA-7


• Tools: INSYNC, Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow


• AI: Should be AI aware with GitHub Copilot and VS Code


• Designer skills: Should be able to independently analyze IMS Segments, create detailed designs, lead junior developers, participate in end-to-end field mapping, develop, unit test, and deploy code


• DB2: Strong understanding of DB2 objects and processing. Should be able to independently analyze DB2 objects


• Soft skills: Should be able to learn independently while working in a pod with limited mainframe expertise. Candidate should be a good problem solver with the ability to adapt and learn


• Nice to have (non-mandatory): Knowledge of Kafka and RESTful APIs
