Mainframe Tester Job Summary

The Mainframe Tester is responsible for planning, managing, and executing quality assurance activities for mainframe applications. This role involves analyzing business and system requirements, designing and executing test cases, managing defects, and ensuring the quality and reliability of mainframe-based solutions. The position works closely with development, business, and support teams to identify issues and drive resolutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze business and system requirements to define testing scope and approach
• Design, develop, and execute test cases for mainframe applications
• Plan and manage testing activities across the project lifecycle
• Validate application functionality, data integrity, and system performance
• Identify, track, and manage defects through resolution
• Perform functional, integration, system, and regression testing
• Collaborate with development teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
• Provide feedback on system quality, operational risks, and production readiness
• Support UAT and production validation activities
• Document test results, defect reports, and testing metrics

Must-Have Skills

• Strong experience in Mainframe Testing
• Knowledge of mainframe technologies such as COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, and VSAM
• Experience in test planning, test case design, execution, and defect management
• Ability to analyze business and system requirements
• Experience with functional, integration, system, and regression testing
• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
• Understanding of SDLC, STLC, and QA best practices
• Experience working with test management and defect tracking tools
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Good communication and stakeholder management skills

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Banking or Financial Services domain experience
• Experience with batch processing and scheduling tools
• Exposure to API and interface testing
• Knowledge of Agile delivery methodologies
• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise mainframe applications

Salary Range - CA$ 90,000 - CA$ 110,000 Per Year
