Rocky View Schools invites applications for a continuing, full-time Learning Assistant at Herons Crossing School in Airdrie, starting immediately. The role supports students from K to 9, collaborating with teachers to adapt programs and promote health, learning and independence.

Reporting to the Principal, the Learning Assistant helps implement plans, records observations, assists with personal care tasks, and participates in planning meetings to support positive outcomes for diverse learners in

Qualifications

• Educational Assistant Certificate or related diploma.
• Training in preventative/de-escalating behaviour, or willingness to become certified.
• Minimum one year experience with students with challenging behavior and applying positive behavior supports is considered and asset.
• CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to become certified is considered an asset.
• An equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Support students with individualized plans including personal, medical, and safety needs.
• Implement strategies from PLP/IPP/BSP and safety/medical plans.
• Record observations on behavior to support positive strategies.
• Participate in IPP/SSP planning meetings.
• Prepare individualized program materials with teachers.
• Promote student learning and independence.
• Foster interaction among students with special needs and peers.
• Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information.
• Assist with routine personal care tasks.
• Support medical needs including transfers, tube feeding, and other routine medical requirements.
