Job summary

Rocky View Schools is seeking a Learning Assistant at Northcott Prairie School in Airdrie to support students with diverse needs. The role collaborates with teachers to implement individualized plans, promote health, learning and independence, and ensure a safe, inclusive classroom environment.

The successful candidate will hold an Educational Assistant Certificate or related diploma, with training in behaviour support and CPR/First Aid a plus.

Qualifications

• Educational Assistant Certificate or related diploma required/preferred.
• Training in preventative/de-escalating behaviour, or willingness to become certified.
• Minimum one year experience with students with challenging behavior is an asset.
• CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to become certified.

Responsibilities

• Provides assistance to students as identified in individualized plans, including those needing additional supports.
• Implements and reinforces strategies directed by teachers and student plans.
• Records observations and data on behavioral challenges to guide positive strategies.
• Participates in collaborative planning meetings for student planning.
• Assists in preparing individualized program materials under teacher direction.
• Promotes student learning, belonging and independence.
• Assists students with emotional/behaviour regulation; supports those with challenging behaviours.
• Respects confidentiality and maintains privacy of student and staff information.
• Supports routine personal care activities and daily living tasks.
• Assists in physical education and motor skills development as directed by a specialist.
