Job summary

Rocky View Schools is seeking a Learning Assistant to support students from Kindergarten to Grade 9 at Northcott Prairie School in Airdrie. The role collaborates with teachers to adapt programs for diverse learners and promotes health, learning and independence within the classroom and community.

The position emphasizes collaboration, confidentiality, and safe handling of medical and behavioral needs, with ongoing opportunities for professional development and growth within the district.

Qualifications

• Educational Assistant Certificate or diploma in related field.
• Training in preventative/de-escalating behaviour, or willingness to become certified.
• Minimum one year experience with students with challenging behavior is considered an asset.
• CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to become certified is considered an asset.
• An equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Assist students as identified in individualized plans including health and safety needs.
• Implement strategies directed by teachers and student plans.
• Record observations and data on behavioral challenges to guide support.
• Participate in collaborative planning meetings for student planning.
• Prepare individualized program materials under teacher direction.
• Actively promote student learning, belonging and independence.
• Assist students with emotional and behavioural regulation.
• Maintain confidentiality and privacy of information.
• Support routine personal care activities and daily living tasks.
• Assist in physical activities and motor skills development as directed.
• Support students' medical needs including transfers and medications as directed.
