With a staff of 14,000, the TCDSB is a dynamic school board and is seeking a position for a Lead Project Supervisor, Capital within the Capital Development, Asset Management & Renewal department.

The Capital Department manages the stewardship of hundreds of millions of dollars in new construction projects aimed at enhancing student learning and fostering student success.

The team collaborates with students, families, teachers, staff, consultants, and contractors to create safe, sustainable, and supportive learning environments. Through various initiatives, the department strives to develop responsive spaces that engage students, inspire curiosity, promote reflection, encourage collaboration, and nurture lifelong learning and leadership.

Several team members are licensed professionals with the OAA and PEO, dedicated to advancing and improving public institutional architecture through the design of TCDSB schools. The department partners with some of Canada's leading architects, leveraging their diverse expertise to continually enhance our built environments.

Key Accountabilities
  • Act as the Board contract representative on capital building projects; provide ongoing communication, coordinate and attend project management meetings as required to assist in the project delivery
  • Perform contract administrative duties related to Capital Development or School Renewal Projects
  • Monitor project budget and payments and prepare portfolio schedules and forecast cash flow for the department
  • Provide ongoing communications with school communities and administrators, senior staff, and other stakeholders
  • Develop and prepare detailed work scopes for external consultants and prepare and participate in evaluating prequalification submissions
  • Manage the production of contract documents and provide reviews for all drawings and specs
  • Perform regular construction site reviews of contract progress. Prepare Monthly site review reports
  • Maintain records of all contracts and audit record‑keeping procedures
  • Other duties as assigned or required
Requirements
  • Minimum of (4) four‑years degree in architectural, engineering, construction management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of progressive experience in construction administration site supervision and/or project management in an architectural, engineering consulting or construction firm or institutional organization
  • Membership in the appropriate professional association would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of relevant government regulation and codes including the Ontario Building Code and the Ontario Construction Act.
  • Knowledge of the Municipal Planning and Development Process
  • Thorough understanding of a new building Project from inception, through design and construction, to close‑out
  • Thorough knowledge of consultant and construction contracts and procurement procedures
  • Regular travel to schools and construction sites by car within the GTA
  • Excellent knowledge of construction contract administration procedures including tendering policies and procedures, change order management, invoicing and prompt payment, financial reporting and tracking.
  • Ability to work independently, self‑directed and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical, negotiation and problem‑solving skills
  • Proficiency with a range of current software programs and applications including MS Office
  • Experience in school or institutional design and construction would be an asset.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with multiple deadlines and conflicting priorities.
  • Availability to work outside core office hours, as required
