Lab Assistant – Early Childhood Educator

Northern College is seeking a Lab Assistant – Early Childhood Educator in our Community Services department. The successful candidate will be organized, proactive, and collaborative, with strong communication skills and experience in early childhood education environments. Technical skills in scheduling, inventory management, and event coordination are considered assets.

Reporting to the Dean, Business and Community Services, the successful candidate will provide support to the Early Childhood Education program by coordinating and maintaining the ECE Play Lab, fostering community partnerships, and facilitating student learning experiences.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the ECE Play Lab, ensuring a clean, safe, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
  • Prepare toys, materials, and learning invitations for each lab session.
  • Organize student paperwork, name tags, and assignment materials.
  • Manage inventory and purchase snacks and supplies as needed.
  • Coordinate agency partnerships with childcare centers, schools, and community organizations.
  • Develop and maintain agency visit schedules and student participation plans.
  • Update and distribute Lab Partnership Agreements with clear expectations.
  • Plan and facilitate special events such as ECE Appreciation Day and National Child’s Day.
  • Support faculty and students to ensure consistent, high‑quality lab experiences.

What You Will Need To Be Considered
  • 2‑year post‑secondary diploma, or equivalent in a related/relevant field of study.
  • 3‑years of practical experience.
