Job description
Job Description

RBC Capital Markets is seeking a Junior Quantitative Analyst to join our Equity Derivatives team in Toronto. This role provides direct on‑desk quantitative support for our Canada Flow & Dispersion trading business, working closely with traders and senior quants to solve real‑time pricing challenges, build robust data infrastructure, and develop next‑generation volatility models.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a recent PhD graduate or experienced Master's‑level quant to gain hands‑on experience in a fast‑paced trading environment while contributing to cutting‑edge derivatives research and production systems.

What will you do?
  • On‑Desk Quantitative Support: Act as the first line of quant support for flow traders—investigate and resolve pricing, risk, and P&L issues in real‑time, working directly alongside traders to support live trading decisions.
  • Volatility Model Research & Development: Implement and prototype new volatility models under senior quant guidance; build shadow pricing tools, run back tests, and validate results against production systems.
  • Data Engineering & Quality: Design and maintain robust data pipelines for earnings, dividends, historical returns, and corporate actions; implement anomaly detection and ensure data integrity for critical market feeds.
  • Process Improvement & Documentation: Build automated workflows, develop monitoring tools, create clear runbooks, and reduce manual operational overhead for the trading desk.
  • Regional Trading Support: Provide quantitative and operational support for the Canada desk; encode regional market conventions (including EMEA) and manage multi‑region data feeds to ensure seamless cross‑border trading.
What do you need to succeed?

Must Have:

  • PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Financial Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, or a related quantitative field; master's degree and strong quantitative finance experience will also be considered.
  • Strong foundation in probability, calculus, statistics, stochastic processes, and numerical methods.
  • Proficiency in C++ or Python.
  • Familiarity with derivatives pricing, volatility modeling, or market microstructure.
  • High ownership mentality and pragmatic problem‑solving approach.
  • Ability to prioritize between urgent support requests and longer‑term research projects.
  • Excellent communication skills for both technical (quants, engineers) and non‑technical (traders, managers) audiences.
  • Comfort working in a collaborative, fast‑paced trading floor environment.

Nice To Have:

  • Experience with data engineering, SQL, or data pipeline tools.
  • Familiarity with derivatives pricing, volatility modeling, or market microstructure.
