Job summary

PCL Constructors Canada Inc. in Halifax, Nova Scotia, invites applications for an HSE Student internship in the Ottawa district. The 4-month program starts January 2027, offering hands-on experience on real projects and mentorship opportunities.

You will assist with inspections, orient new employees, and help develop training materials while learning on a live site with safety standards and environmental programs.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of environmental requirements and ability to implement compliant systems.
  • Able to implement HSE program elements and safe operating procedures.
  • Ability to plan preventative measures to reduce hazard exposure; investigate incidents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong willingness to learn and adapt on site.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the HSE professional with inspections and incidental investigations.
  • Assist with the orientation of new employees.
  • Develop training materials.
  • Review paperwork (PSI, tailgate meetings, safework procedures, trend analysis).
  • Monitor and maintain the environmental program.
  • Follow project safety standards and regulations.
  • Analyze trends and incidents and report findings to district.
  • Gather and distribute safety-related statistics.
  • Interpret, communicate, and reinforce project safety standards to workforce.

Join us as aHSE Studentfor our Ottawadistrict, within our Canadian Buildings sectorfor 4 months starting January 2027. Depending on your assigned project as a HSE Student, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our team by:

Responsibilities
  • Assisting the HSE Professional with inspections and incidental investigations
  • Assisting with the orientation of new employees
  • Developing of training materials
  • Reviewing paperwork (ie. PSI, tailgate meetings, safework procedure, trend analysis)
  • Monitoring and maintaining the environmental program
  • Recognizing and following PCL and local legislative requirements
  • Analyzing site-specific trends and incidents and reporting findings to district
  • Gathering/reviewing/distributing safety-related statistical information
  • Interpreting, communicating, and reinforcing project safety standards to workforce
Qualifications
  • Ability to implement HSE program elements and safe operating procedures
  • Knowledge of environmental requirements and the ability to implement systems which meet compliance
  • Ability to plan and employ preventative measures to reduce the risks of exposure to hazards · The ability to determine the cause of an incident, and to initiate and implement corrective action to prevent the likelihood of reoccurrence
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong willingness to learn
