Job summary

Middlesex County seeks a Human Resources Generalist to provide consultation and operational support across employee relations, talent acquisition, compensation, job evaluation, pay equity, HR systems, learning, documentation, and related HR programs.

The role advises managers and employees on policies and collective agreements, supports recruitment and onboarding, disciplinaries, and investigations, and helps maintain a positive culture through engagement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3–4 years practical HR experience including experience in employee relations, labour relations, compensation, job evaluation, pay equity, or related area; municipal or public-sector experience preferred.
• Certified HR Professional (CHRP) or working toward accreditation is preferred.
• Experience working in a unionized environment and interpreting/applying multiple collective agreements, HR policies, and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the employee and labour relations advisor to managers, supervisors, and employees on workplace matters within assigned service areas.
• Provide guidance on interpretation of collective agreements, HR policies, procedures, programs, and legislation.
• Design and implement recruitment, selection and retention strategies in line with legislation and objectives.
• Administer leaves of absence per legislation and agreements, including documentation and communications.
• Conduct workplace investigations and recommend appropriate resolutions.
• Support performance management and progressive discipline with managers.
