Job summary

Civic Recruitment Limited is seeking a Housing Officer for a 3‑month contract with a London council. You will assess Housing Register applications, determine eligibility, and prioritise households for housing.

You will interview applicants, conduct home visits, and provide advice on social and private rented housing, coordinating allocations with providers and maintaining detailed records.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience in housing allocations, homelessness or housing advice within a local authority.
• Knowledge of housing allocation policies and related legislation is required.
• Strong interviewing and assessment skills with a client-focused approach.

Responsibilities

• Assess applications to determine eligibility and priority under the Housing Allocations Scheme.
• Conduct applicant interviews and home visits to verify circumstances.
• Provide comprehensive housing advice across social housing and private rented options.
• Coordinate allocations and viewings with providers and partners.
• Maintain accurate records and monitor performance targets.
• Deliver guidance to vulnerable households with sensitivity and professionalism.
