Position Summary

The Manufacturing HSE Manager implements and maintains company policies adhering to local, provincial and federal Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) regulations. Involved in the design and development of facilities, work areas and work procedures and makes HSE recommendations accordingly. Ensures compliance with all HSE regulations and stays informed of changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Interfaces with federal, provincial, and local regulatory bodies. Supports HSE Director and can assume responsibility for certain aspects of that role during any absence.

How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Ensures compliance with all Health, Safety & Environment regulations and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Implements the Health & Safety Management system including policy and procedures, training and verification, monitoring JTOs, accountability through progressive disciplinary process, and continuous improvement reviews.
  • Implements Environmental, Health and Safety document management programs.
  • Interfaces with federal, provincial, and local regulatory bodies.
  • Introduces change and strives for Health, Safety & Environment best practices.
  • Supports supervisors to establish and maintain effective due diligence, acts as a subject matter expert, auditing compliance.
  • Supports the growth of our Health & Safety culture.
  • Supports the Joint Health and Safety Committees’ effectiveness, acts as a subject matter expert to achieve legislative compliance.
  • Acts as internal HSE consultant providing leadership, guidance and advice on a wide range of HSE topics.
  • Develops and delivers essential HSE training sessions for supervisors.
  • Works onsite at Brantford Manufacturing Plant, collaborating with operations to ensure open communication with all employees.
  • Develops safety talks and safety bulletins to support supervisors and maintain awareness for all employees.
  • Responsible for HSE implementation and compliance at COSME & Techni-Rack Manufacturing locations in Montreal.
  • Leads to develop and maintain a safe work environment and culture.
  • Responds to inquiries and addresses concerns of employees and managers relating to health and safety.
  • Oversees responses to customer requests relating to health and safety.
  • Provides guidance and support to managers and supervisors with accident and incident investigation, reporting, trend monitoring, and follow-up to support effective corrective action.
  • Implements monthly workplace inspection standards, reporting and auditing.
  • Implements documentation controls, time-sensitive reporting and process efficiencies.
  • Prepares weekly, monthly and ad hoc reports.
  • Analyzes workplace accident/incident trends and makes recommendations to management to reduce and eliminate hazards.
  • Provides oversight and guidance to HRBPs who manage WCB claims.
  • Provides leadership in HSE functional areas and ensures a safe, incident-free work environment.
  • Manages the activities of the H&S Compliance Specialist located in Brantford.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring to the Table
  • 5+ years of Health and Safety experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment with strong knowledge of Ontario Industrial Regulations.
  • Occupational Health & Safety diploma and specialized HSE trainings are an asset.
  • Must be available to travel quarterly to COSME & Techni Rack manufacturing branches in Montreal to provide onsite support and guidance.
  • Available to attend offsite meetings, conferences & training events within Canada and the US as required.
  • Onsite work at the Brantford Manufacturing Plant Monday – Friday; flexible hours as the plant runs two shifts. Hybrid option with a 3 days minimum onsite requirement weekly.
  • Previous management/supervisor experience is an asset.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Office 365 skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Calm, professional demeanor with excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to introduce and influence change with employees and management.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Organized and able to prioritize with urgency when required.
  • Adaptable and dependable; able to work varying shifts as needed.
  • Project management skills are an asset.
