FULL-TIME SENIOR TECHNOLOGIST / QUALITY AND POINT OF CARE COORDINATOR – Laboratory

Responsibilities
  • Facilitates the day-to-day operations and efficient workflow of the department using clinical knowledge, good judgment and leadership skills.
  • Works as a technologist while serving as the first point of contact for all staff with any issues regarding patient care delivery, staffing issues and point of care testing
  • As Quality Coordinator, oversees maintenance of the Quality Management System in consultation with the Manager Laboratory Services and Medical Director / Quality Office
  • As Point of Care Coordinator, coordinates and monitors the function of point of care testing at both facilities to maintain quality and safety
  • Technical Liaison with Medical Consultants, Manager and Nursing Areas at SMGH and FCHS
  • Oversee training and competency programs for laboratory and nursing staff (POCT)
  • Cerner Subject Matter Expert
  • Maintain competency to perform all duties of a bench technologist in Core Lab and Transfusion Medicine.
Essential Qualifications
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist
  • Graduate Certificate in Laboratory Quality Management preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and mentoring abilities with supervisory experience an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and critical thinking / problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated superior organizational skills to prioritize tasks in collaboration with other members of the health care team
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and recommend process improvement opportunities. LEAN and quality management certification an asset.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and self-directed learning
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and deal effectively with clients to provide exceptional customer service
  • Demonstrated intensive knowledge and skills in Cerner PathNet.
  • Strong team player with the ability to perform duties independently and professionally
