COSCO SHIPPING Lines (Canada) Inc. is launching a new NAOC in Toronto and seeks organized Equipment Coordinators to optimize container inventory and asset utilization. You will track movements, manage imbalances, and coordinate empty repositioning to reduce port storage fees.

Reporting to the Manager of Equipment Department, 37.5 hours per week, in-person, based in Mississauga/Greater Toronto area. Prior experience in shipping/logistics is preferred; Power BI knowledge is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Post‑secondary education in business, logistics, supply chain, transportation, or related field.
  • 1–3 years experience in shipping, equipment control, intermodal transportation, terminals, or related industry preferred.
  • Strong understanding of rail operations, terminals, and intermodal activities preferred.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills with external customers and internal teams.
  • Strong problem-solving, detail orientation, and data accuracy.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel; Power BI a plus.
  • Ability to adapt to varying start/end times, including holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Track container movements and optimize inventory and asset utilization.
  • Coordinate empty repositioning to minimize port storage fees and maintain efficiency.
  • Support Maintenance & Repair, Chassis Management, Off-Hire & Empty Equipment, and related processes.
  • Handle bookings, transactions, and rate input across terminals and depots.
  • Validate and process maintenance, repair claims, and loss/disposition activities.
  • Coordinate transloads and internal job orders; monitor overdue containers and coordinate returns.

Job description

COSCO SHIPPING Lines (Canada) Inc. is a leading global ocean carrier with a rich history in the Canadian market. The company is launching a brand-new operations centre, COSCO SHIPPING NAOC – North America Operation Center, in Toronto, and we are seeking organized Equipment Coordinators, in Equipment Control Department to optimize our ocean container inventory and asset utilization.

In this role, you will track container movements, manage equipment imbalances, and coordinate empty repositioning to eliminate costly port storage fees and keep our supply chain highly efficient.

The Equipment Coordinator role supports a range of functions within the department, including Maintenance & Repair, Chassis Management, Off-Hire & Empty Equipment, Claims & Total Loss, Billing & Statements, and Per Diem, Collections & Customer Service. Employees may be assigned to one or more functional areas based on their qualifications, experience, strengths, and the operational needs of the business.

This is a full-time position based on 37.5 hours per week reporting to the Manager of Equipment Department of NAOC.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform weekly updates and maintenance of MRO and N2C3 gate transactions to ensure equipment inventory accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Provide timely and professional customer service support through customer portals, email, and telephone inquiries.
  • Manage terminal and depot booking releases, including the equipment status on hiring and updates for Shipper-Owned Containers (SOC) tanks.
  • Process and monitor Street Turn requests (OSC), manual rail billing transactions, and job order corrections to support seamless intermodal operations.
  • Approve container and genset in-service, off-hire, and repair status transactions to support effective equipment fleet management; maintain and authorize equipment records in ONEMNR.
  • Coordinate and manage container transload activities at ports & rail terminals; create and process Internal Job Orders and other equipment control activities.
  • Monitor and follow up on overdue containers, working closely with customers, truckers, terminals, and internal stakeholders to facilitate timely equipment returns and reposition.
  • Prepare and submit VTM requests to ATD and GSC for rate input and system updates.
  • Manage and process all Maintenance & Repair claims, including investigation, validation, follow‑up, and resolution of disputed cases.
  • Handle claims related to lost, stolen, damaged, gensets, ensuring timely recovery and settlement, coordinate and manage the sale and disposal of total loss containers
Skills/Requirement
  • Post‑secondary Education in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, or related fields.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in shipping, equipment control, intermodal transportation, terminal operations, logistics, or a related industry is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of rail operations, terminal and depot processes, container equipment management, and intermodal transportation activities is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to effectively interact with customers, trucking companies, terminals, depots, and internal teams.
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities with a proactive and solutions‑oriented mindset.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Knowledge of Power BI is a plus.
  • Flexibility to work varying start and end times, including statutory holidays, as required to meet operational and business needs.
