Location: Perth WA

Start date: February 6

Contract duration: 6-month temp contract with possible ext for further 6 months

Hourly rate: $. p / h +super

Our client is seeking a skilled and motivated Environmental Officer to provide professional environmental support and ensure the organisation meets its environmental responsibilities across major transport operations and projects.

In this role, you’ll work closely with the Environmental Manager and a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance, manage approvals and contribute to positive environmental outcomes for the community.

About the Role

The Environmental Officer provides technical and professional environmental expertise to support our clients’ environmental obligations. You will assist in the management of environmental risks, support statutory compliance, and help drive best‑practice environmental performance across projects, operations and maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide professional and technical advice on environmental matters in line with statutory obligations and standards.
  • Prepare work briefs and scopes for environmental consultants in accordance with procurement guidelines.
  • Prepare and manage environmental approval applications through to completion.
  • Conduct regular reviews and audits ensuring environmental compliance, including site inspections where required.
  • Liaise with managers, contractors, consultants, local governments and government agencies to achieve sound environmental outcomes.
  • Support the Environmental Manager through provision of updates, reports and analysis.
  • Coordinate approval of noise management plans for maintenance and construction works occurring outside standard hours.
  • Assist with community liaison and respond to environmental complaints, including issues relating to noise, dust and other impacts.
Required Skills and Competencies
Technical Skills
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation, regulations and approval processes.
  • Ability to prepare environmental approval documentation and technical reports.
  • Experience in environmental compliance monitoring, auditing and site inspections.
  • Understanding of noise, dust or other environmental impact management processes.
Interpersonal & Communication Skills
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to liaise effectively across government, community groups, contractors and consultants.
  • Ability to respond to community concerns with professionalism and clarity.
  • Strong written skills for preparing briefs, reports and consultant scopes.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, reviews and approval processes simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality documentation.
  • Capability to work both independently and as part of a team.
