Job Description

Our client is seeking a seasoned Electrical Distribution Engineer or Designer to lead the modeling and design of overhead power lines, including joint‑use attachments. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, quality, and constructability of all designs, calculations, and estimates for utility projects of various sizes. The primary scope of work includes overseeing pole replacement programs and supervising underground and overhead cable sizing and pulling for distribution projects across Calgary. This individual will mentor junior team members, provide technical oversight, and ensure the delivery of high‑quality design packages. They will also address design‑related issues and field questions during project execution and collaborate closely with project management to ensure projects are completed profitably and on schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee modeling and design of overhead distribution lines, including joint‑use attachments
  • Lead and mentor team members working on pole replacement projects and distribution cable design (overhead and underground)
  • Ensure the accuracy, quality, and constructability of all design work, calculations, and estimates
  • Prepare and deliver complete, high-quality design packages to clients and project teams
  • Respond to design‑related inquiries during construction and support field personnel as needed
  • Review and interpret electrical, civil, and construction plans from utilities, consultants, and developers
  • Work closely with project management to ensure timely and profitable project delivery
Essential Skills
  • 7+ years of experience as an electrical distribution designer or engineer
  • Proficiency in PLS‑CADD, with strong theoretical understanding
  • Experience with overhead line design and pole replacements
  • Ability to produce and review engineering drawings and design packages
  • Strong understanding of utility distribution standards and construction practices
  • Experience with AutoCAD
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • P.Eng or P.L.Eng designation
  • GIS experience
  • Experience with additional design and project software such as Bluebeam, MicroStation, and AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of power utility design standards and practices
