Job description
Director of Engineering, Growth & Extensibility

U.S. Remote

At Webflow, our mission is to bring development superpowers to everyone. As the pioneer of the Website Experience Platform (WXP), we’re redefining how teams Build, Manage, and Optimize for the web — combining visual development, powerful content management systems, AI-driven personalization, seamless hosting, and end-to-end analytics in a single, unified platform. With AI at the core, Webflow helps teams move faster, create more performant digital experiences, and scale without heavy engineering support. From independent designers and creative agencies to global enterprises, hundreds of thousands of organizations use Webflow to turn ideas into reality — and to power what’s possible on the web.

We’re looking for a Director of Engineering to lead our Growth and Extensibility pillar. These teams are responsible for core growth and extensibility surfaces across Webflow—including AI Site Builder, pricing infrastructure, the app ecosystem, freelancers and agencies workflows, and our API platform.

Responsibilities
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership by staying close to the codebase and deeply understanding system architecture. You won’t be expected to ship code regularly, but you’ll contribute meaningfully to technical discussions and design reviews.
  • Adopt a learning mindset; humility and curiosity are essential for success.
  • Lead engineering initiatives across growth and extensibility areas including AI onboarding, growth experiments, extensibility APIs, marketplace development, and subscription infrastructure.
  • Drive end-to-end execution of major growth levers such as the AI Site Builder, pricing platform, developer ecosystem, and tools for freelancers and agencies.
  • Collaborate with Product to improve monetization, reduce churn, and grow the third-party ecosystem.
  • Own cross-functional platform surfaces like the dashboard, onboarding flows, and internal APIs, ensuring cohesive user and developer experiences.
  • Set architectural direction for new products, including Designer APIs and the billing platform, balancing scalability with product velocity.
  • Foster partnerships with product managers and engineering managers; mentor and support emerging leaders across the organization.
  • Maintain velocity and execution quality while investing in long-term health and stability of the core platform.

We will support you in identifying development opportunities and integrating them into your role.

About you

You’ll thrive as a Director of Engineering, Growth and Extensibility if you:

  • Have 7+ years of engineering leadership experience, including managing managers and scaling multi-team orgs in complex product environments.
  • Have 4+ years of hands-on engineering experience building production systems across the stack—APIs, infra, and user-facing features.
  • Have led teams owning key business surfaces like pricing infrastructure, onboarding flows, billing systems, or extensibility.
  • Have experience driving growth outcomes through experimentation, product-led monetization, or retention-focused work.
  • Have built and scaled developer platforms or SDKs, and understand the balance between flexibility and guardrails.
  • Have managed distributed teams and know how to build context, trust, and speed across geographies. Understanding how to manage well in a remote-first team is critical for this role.
  • Understand how to grow leaders, coach emerging EMs, and run an org that scales with clarity and care.
  • Operate with urgency and product intuition, aligning technical work with business impact.
  • Care about team health and inclusion, and invest in building a strong, resilient engineering culture.

  • Reinvent ourselves. We imagine what’s possible and strive to improve beyond the status quo.
  • Deliver with speed, quality, and craft. Move fast while maintaining high standards.

  • 100% employer-paid healthcare, vision, and dental insurance for full-time employees (30+ hours/week) and dependents; voluntary options may be available by country
  • 12 weeks paid parental leave for all caregivers, plus additional leave where applicable; family planning care and reimbursement
  • Flexible PTO and sabbatical program
  • Access to mental wellness resources, coaching, therapy, and Employee Assistance Program
  • Monthly stipends for work and wellness
