Cross Dock Lead (Western Canada)

Location: On‑Site Calgary Office
Position Summary
As the Cross Dock Lead for Western Canada, you’re the action‑oriented point person keeping freight and paperwork moving smoothly across our BC, Calgary, and Edmonton cross docks. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you blend remote oversight with regular travel to the docks, where you pitch in, solve problems on the floor, and keep teams accountable for timely, accurate shipments. Your main goal: no surprises and no headaches, just efficient, organized dock operations that keep our freight, teams, system and paperwork on track.
Key Accountabilities
- Build strong relationships onsite, especially with the CCS Calgary team, and monitor service levels daily.
- Track next‑day delivery readiness, resolve scheduling gaps, and ensure no shipments get stuck.
- Coordinate third‑party labor (lumpers), follow up on missing delivery info, and update trackers with notes and exceptions.
- Audit inventory weekly, act when freight needs to be moved to OSD or rebooked.
- Ensure outbound pickups and skids reach their destination, and that all PODs and documentation are quickly shared when requested.
- Monitor inbound linehaul arrival to crossdock and subsequent outbound delivery planning to the final destination.
Run Efficient TMS and Load Building
- Create and update return shipments, reshipments, and disposals in the system within set turnaround times.
- Confirm loads, remove outdated info, and verify new shipment/BOL and PO data for each step.
- Manage spot rate and any wait‑status shipments with operations support.
Keep OSD Freight Under Control
- Track all OSD freight, label with the correct PO and dates, and organize onsite.
- Coordinate returns, relabeling, disposal, and damage processes with vendors, partners, and the CCS dock team.
- Maintain updated info in OSD shared drives and publish weekly OSD snapshots for internal teams.
Champion Communication and Team Engagement
- Act as the main communication link between on‑the‑ground teams and regional management.
- Keep documentation, systems, and logs up‑to‑date and accurate for all site visits.
- Foster a continuous‑improvement culture at each location.
- Gather feedback and share wins and learnings with the broader team.
Knowledge & Experience
- 5+ years’ dock or warehouse leadership, preferably across multiple sites.
- Strong experience with OSD, return freight, and shipping documentation.
- Proven ability to coordinate, direct, and coach on‑site teams through hands‑on work.
- Comfortable with Excel, Google Sheets, and TMS/WMS; strong attention to detail.
- Valid driver’s license, able to travel regularly and adapt to workload demands.
