Job summary

The Developmental Disabilities Association (DDA) invites you to join our Vancouver team as a Community Support Worker. You will help adults with developmental disabilities develop life skills, engage in community activities, and build independence in a supportive, inclusive setting.

This permanent full-time role runs Monday to Friday 07:30–15:00 with wages $26.83 to $29.76 per hour under the current collective agreement, plus benefits and training opportunities. Union membership is encouraged.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Social Services, Human Services, Education or Therapeutic Recreation.
  • 1-2 years of experience with adults with developmental disabilities in vocational/community settings.
  • Ability to implement instructional and proactive training programs.
  • Must pass criminal/medical clearances and haveDriver's license for work

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with social, emotional, physical, vocational, recreational, and daily living skills.
  • Develop individualized client service plans and lead programming.
  • Support activities of daily living and community-based activities.
  • Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive program environment.

Job Title: COMMUNITY SUPPORT WORKER | #2229
Service Area: Vocational & Community Services
Location: Vancouver, BC
Start Date: August 31, 2026
Term/Status: Permanent Full Time
Schedule/Hours: Monday to Friday07:30-15:00 // 37.5 hours per week
Hourly Wage: $26.83 – $29.76 as per the collective agreement (2024 rates, implementation of new collective agreement is in process, and new wage rates $28.46 to $31.57 will be implemented once funding is received)
The Role:

The Community Support Worker (CSW) assists adult clients with their social, emotional, physical, vocational, recreational and daily life skill development. The CSW supports clients to achieve their greatest degree of independence in environments of their choice through participation in onsite and community opportunities. Duties include; participation in the development of individual client service plans & the opportunity to plan and lead programming while assisting with activities of daily living.

  • Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging program environment
  • Work alongside team members to support participants with activities of daily living
  • Participate in the implementation and monitoring of individualized goal plansLead engaging, person-centered programs tailored to diverse abilities
  • Provide services through on-site, community and outreach-based activities

Requirements/Education/Experience:
  • Degree or Diploma in area directly related to Social Services, Human Services, Education or Therapeutic Recreation.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities in vocational & community settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully implement instructional and proactive training programs for clients.
  • Must be able to perform lifts and transfers of 40lbs & be willing to go in chlorinated swimming pools.
  • Experience with principles of positive behavior management is preferred.
  • Criminal Record Clearance
  • Medical Clearance
  • Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
  • Class 5 Driver's License and use of vehicle for work
  • Willing to obtain an Unrestricted Class 4 Driver's License during probationary period
  • Valid First Aid/CPR
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certification
  • Demonstrated competency in English written and verbal communication
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Requires physical strength, good balance, mobility, and endurance for recreational activities
  • Position involves assisting clients with personal care needs
