Job summary

Developmental Disabilities Association in Vancouver, BC is hiring a Community Support Worker to help adults with social, emotional, physical, vocational, recreational and daily life skills. You will support clients to gain independence through onsite and community activities and help implement individual goals.

The role requires a degree or diploma in related Social/Human Services fields, 1–2 years of relevant experience, and a valid Class 5 driver’s license with access to a vehicle.

Qualifications

  • The Role requires documented English communication skills in written and verbal form.
  • Basic computer literacy to support documentation and planning.
  • Ability to obtain Criminal Record Clearance and medical clearance.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist adult clients with social, emotional, physical, vocational, recreational, and daily life skills.
  • Develop and monitor individualized service plans with the team and clients.
  • Plan and lead person-centered programs tailored to diverse abilities.
  • Provide on-site, community and outreach-based programming support.

Job Title: COMMUNITY SUPPORT WORKER | #2221
Service Area: Vocational & Community Services
Location: Vancouver, BC
Start Date: September 08, 2026
Term/Status: Permanent Full Time
Schedule/Hours: Monday to Friday07:30-15:00 // 37.5 hours per week
Hourly Wage: $26.83 – $29.76 as per the collective agreement (2024 rates, implementation of new collective agreement is in process, and new wage rates $28.46 to $31.57 will be implemented once funding is received)

The Role:

The Community Support Worker (CSW) assists adult clients with their social, emotional, physical, vocational, recreational and daily life skill development. The CSW supports clients to achieve their greatest degree of independence in environments of their choice through participation in onsite and community opportunities. Duties include; participation in the development of individual client service plans & the opportunity to plan and lead programming while assisting with activities of daily living.

  • Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging program environment
  • Work alongside team members to support participants with activities of daily living
  • Participate in the implementation and monitoring of individualized goal plans
  • Lead engaging, person-centered programs tailored to diverse abilities
  • Provide services through on-site, community and outreach-based activities

Requirements/Education/Experience:

  • Degree or Diploma in area directly related to Social Services, Human Services, Education or Therapeutic Recreation.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities in vocational & community settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully implement instructional and proactive training programs for clients.
  • Must be able to perform lifts and transfers of 40lbs & be willing to go in chlorinated swimming pools.
  • Experience with principles of positive behavior management is preferred.
  • Criminal Record Clearance
  • Medical Clearance
  • Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
  • Class 5 Driver's License and use of vehicle for work
  • Willing to obtain an Unrestricted Class 4 Driver's License during probationary period
  • Valid First Aid/CPR
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certification
  • Demonstrated competency in English written and verbal communication
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Requires physical strength, good balance, mobility, and endurance for recreational activities
  • Position involves assisting clients with personal care needs

Training is provided for: Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certification & Client personal care
