About the Opportunity

The position of Communications Call Centre Attendant (also referred to as "Locating") is responsible for providing a direct communications interface to physicians, clinics, patients, ORs, emergency response and Public Health organizations within the Nova Scotia Health and its related affiliates. This position is responsible for receiving all internal emergency calls (3333 – CODE and trauma) and coordinating the appropriate response teams and personnel. It also integrates and manages the "on-call" duty sheets and coordinates communications to on-call staff and assignments such as Multi-Organ Transplant Program (MOTP), SAFE, Operating Room (OR) and Post Anesthetic Care Unit (PACU) teams. The role supports the operational needs of over 16,000 pager users, and manages pager replacement and maintenance services.

About You
  • Grade XII and one year previous related experience required
  • Must have accreditation or must commit to a three‑month training period and pass the required test to become accredited
  • Computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Relevant knowledge in the operation of telecommunications equipment (pagers, cell phones, blackberries, single and multi‑line landline telephone sets, teleconference sets and headsets)
  • Previous experience in health care/emergency or related field is an asset
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to respond to, follow, and interpret emergency procedures
  • Ability to act on own initiative in instances where procedures do not exist
  • Knowledge of medical terminology an asset
  • Typing skills
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

A skills test will be part of the selection process.

Hours
  • Temporary Long Assignment, Full‑time Position, 70 Hours Bi‑weekly
  • Approximate term of 12 months (Assignment length subject to change)
  • Shifts could include days, evenings, weekends & overnight shifts
Compensation and Benefits

$23.35 – $25.39 Hourly
