Job summary

Bissell Centre in Edmonton is seeking a Circle Facilitator to lead restorative and collaborative decision-making that centers families. You will facilitate Family Group Conferences and circles that respect heritage and community values, creating a safe space for dialogue.

The role requires a Diploma or Degree in Native Studies (or equivalent) and at least two years’ experience; knowledge of Indigenous languages is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with Children’s Services (CFS), community Elders, and other support networks.
• Translate and validate engagement insights into informed decisions.
• Prepare participants for circle processes with pre-meetings explaining purpose and outcomes.

Currently, Bissell Centre is looking for a Circle Facilitator to join our dedicated Family Intervention Services team as we journey with the Community towards an elimination of poverty. How You’ll Make an Impact?

The Circle Facilitator is responsible for leading restorative and collaborative decision-making processes that put families at the heart of the solution. This role focuses on facilitating Family Group Conferences and circles that are not only effective but also culturally responsive, ensuring that heritage and community values are central to the planning process. By creating a safe space for dialogue and partnership, this position empowers families to develop their own strengths-based plans, ultimately fostering better outcomes for children and strengthening the family unit.

• Conduct circles and care conferences using a culturally safe and responsive framework, ensuring that the process respects and incorporates the traditional practices and values of the participants.
• Lead families and professional stakeholders through collaborative processes to develop sustainable, family-led action plans or mediate conflict that addresses safety and stability.
• Maintain a neutral and supportive environment that encourages open communication, manages power dynamics, and fosters consensus among diverse participants.
• Liaise with Children’s Services (CFS), community Elders, and other support networks to ensure that all relevant perspectives are represented in the circle process.
• Translate and validate what was heard during engagement into insights to make informed decisions.
• Prepare participants for circle processes by conducting individual pre-meetings to explain the purpose, expectations, and desired outcomes.

What You’ll Bring?

• A Diploma or Degree in Native Studies (or equivalent) or other related field and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role. An equivalent combination of training and lived experience may be considered.
• Working Knowledge of Indigenous languages would be an asset.
• An advanced knowledge of local Indigenous cultures, ceremonies, and worldview.
• Familiar with land-based teachings and medicine.
• Lived experience will be considered an asset.
• Sound working knowledge of TRC’s Calls to Actionand the Child Intervention Practice Framework
