Job summary

Bissell Centre in Edmonton is seeking a Recovery Coach, Supportive Housing to provide individualized, recovery-oriented support to residents of Terrace Heights Supportive Housing. You will help strengthen recovery capital, support housing stability, and foster independence through practical skills and community connections.

Using trauma-informed, person-centred approaches, you will build trusting relationships, support residents in setting goals, and encourage participation in recovery

Qualifications

  • Completion of Government of Alberta-recognized Recovery Coach training is required.
  • Experience providing recovery-oriented, peer or housing support.
  • Understanding of recovery models and recovery capital principles.

Responsibilities

  • Build trusted, respectful relationships with residents using recovery-oriented approaches.
  • Identify individual recovery goals, strengths, barriers, and supports.
  • Support housing stability and independence through recovery capital development.
  • Assist residents in developing daily living skills and routines for tenancy success.
  • Encourage participation in recovery activities, treatment, and community resources.

How You’ll Make an Impact?

Under the direction of the Manager, the Recovery Coach provides individualized, recovery-oriented support to residents of Terrace Heights Supportive Housing. The Recovery Coach works alongside residents to strengthen recovery capital, maintain housing stability, build independence, and develop the skills, relationships, and community connections that support long-term recovery and wellbeing.

Using a trauma-informed, person-centred and recovery-oriented approach, the Recovery Coach builds trusting relationships with residents, promotes hope and personal growth, and supports residents in identifying and working toward meaningful recovery goals. The position encourages participation in recovery-focused activities, healthy routines, community involvement, and connections to resources and supports that contribute to a meaningful and fulfilling life.

  • Build consistent, trusting, and respectful relationships with residents using person-centred, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented approaches.
  • Work alongside residents to identify individual recovery goals, strengths, interests, barriers, and areas where additional support may contribute to their wellbeing and independence.
  • Support residents in building and strengthening recovery capital, including housing stability, health and wellness, positive relationships, community connection, cultural connection, meaningful activity, education, employment, and a sense of purpose.
  • Support residents in developing practical daily living skills and routines that contribute to successful tenancy, independence, and overall wellbeing.
  • Encourage and support residents to participate in recovery-oriented activities, treatment, peer support, recreation, cultural activities, education, employment, and other meaningful opportunities based on their individual goals.
What You’ll Bring?
  • Successful completion of the Government of Alberta recognized Recovery Coach training is required.
  • Relevant experience providing recovery-oriented, peer, community, supportive housing, mental health, addiction, or human services support.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Alberta Recovery Model, recovery-oriented systems of care, and the principles of recovery capital.
  • Experience supporting individuals experiencing substance use, mental health concerns, homelessness, trauma, and other complex barriers.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusting, respectful, and non-judgmental relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Experience supporting individuals to identify recovery goals, build strengths, increase independence, and connect with treatment, recovery, and community resources.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed, person-centered, strengths-based, and recovery-oriented practices.
  • Experience facilitating recovery-focused groups, activities, life-skills development, or community-based programming is preferred.
  • Knowledge of community resources, addiction treatment and recovery services, health and social services, and other support available within the Edmonton area is an asset.
  • Lived or living experience of recovery, or experience supporting individuals in recovery, is valued and recognized as relevant experience for the position.
