Job summary

YMCA Calgary is seeking a part‑time Choir Instructor for the Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge. You will prepare lesson plans, select musical materials, and collaborate with the piano accompanist to deliver engaging arts programming for participants across ages.

The role emphasizes safety, creativity, and strong customer service in a supportive environment. Requirements include related degree or diploma, First Aid/CPR-C, and a clear Police Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, plus references.

Qualifications

  • Associated Degree(s) or diploma(s) in a related field.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider (asset if certification issued by Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John’s Ambulance or Canadian Ski Patrol).
  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Three professional references required

Responsibilities

  • Prepare lesson plans, research musical selections suitable for participants (children & youth, and/or adults & seniors) and implement classes based on the curriculum design
  • Work alongside the piano accompanist of the program
  • Help offer input into the growth and development of all arts programming initiatives
  • Assure the health and safety of participants by following health and safety practices and regulations
  • Provide a safe, fun, engaging, creative and supportive environment for participants and volunteers
  • Exceptional organizational, multi‑tasking, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills
  • Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional follow‑through
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Maintain a professional attitude at all times
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines
  • Effectively communicate in a variety of settings
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure best delivery of customer/client experience, consistency in program offerings etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Ensure the space and its equipment are being treated safely, and appropriately

Choir Instructor (Part Time, Contract)
Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge
Start Date: August 2026
End Date: March 31, 2027 (Possibility of extension)
Salary: $21.22/hr - $26.52/hr

What qualifications are we looking for?
  • Associated Degree(s) or diploma(s) in a related field: visual arts, teaching, working with adults, seniors and/or adults with disabilities
  • Previous experience teaching or working in the field
  • Meet and maintain any other specific licensing requirements
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider (asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John’s Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol)
