YMCA Calgary is seeking a Lifeguard & Swim Instructor for a part-time role at Shawnessy YMCA in Calgary. Start date is immediate, offering a lively work culture with opportunities for leadership development and employee benefits.

Qualified candidates will hold National Lifeguard Pool certification, current First Aid with CPR-C, and YMCA Swim Instructor certification; ability to work mornings, evenings, and weekends is essential.

Qualifications

• National Lifeguard pool certification is required.
• Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C within last 12 months; asset if issued by Red Cross/Heart and Stroke/Lifesaving Society/St John’s/Canadian Ski Patrol.
• YMCA Swim Instructor or Swim for Life Instructor certification is required.
• Lifesaving Instructor certification is considered an asset.
• Must be able to work morning, evening and weekend shifts.
• Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector Search is required.
• Three professional references are required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe aquatic environment following National Lifeguard standards and YMCA policies.
• Provide exceptional customer service to members and participants.
• Be knowledgeable about YMCA programs and services.
• Complete administrative tasks, update rosters and lesson plans, check and clean equipment.
• Perform water tests and keep pool area orderly and safe.
• Respond to emergencies per Lifeguard standards and YMCA procedures.
• Work as a team and communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and members.
• Attend scheduled in-services and YMCA trainings.

What qualifications are we looking for?

• National Lifeguard - Pool certification
• Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.
• YMCA Swim Instructor or Swim for Life Instructor certification
• Lifesaving Instructor would be considered an asset?

Lifeguards and Swim Instructors will:

• Ensure a safe aquatic environment by following National Lifeguard standards and/or YMCA Policies and Procedures

• Complete administrative tasks, update class rosters, lesson plans, check equipment, clean equipment, perform light maintenance tasks when not guarding or instructing

• Work as a team; communicate effectively with staff, volunteers and members in all situations.
• Attend all scheduled in-services
• Attend all necessary YMCA training
