Job summary

Kitsilano Neighbourhood House is hiring a part-time Early Childhood Educator – School Age for after-school care. You will provide a developmentally appropriate, Reggio-inspired daycare program for children aged 5-12, collaborating with staff to plan activities and document progress.

The role requires experience with school-age children, a valid First Aid certificate, and a minimum age of 19. An ECEA certification is an asset; training hours and licensing regulations guide daily practice.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children aged 5-12 years.
  • 20 hours of Childcare Training (in development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition)
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
  • Minimum age 19 years (as per licensing regulations)
  • ECEA Certification an asset

Responsibilities

  • Co-create programming with the staff team and children
  • Use innovative methods for documentation and curriculum design such as anecdotal observations, finished products, photographs, and written dialogue
  • Attend meetings and workshops to develop and discuss program curriculum and work competencies
  • Interact with children and staff to encourage their involvement in activities
  • Have an understanding of typical developmental pathways

ABOUT YOU

Kitsilano Neighbourhood House is looking for enthusiastic, mature, dedicated, and effective team members to work in our Childcare Programs for children aged 5-12 years old. The successful candidate will have excellent guiding and caring skills and the ability to work in a diverse, multicultural, and energetic environment.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Using a team approach Childcare Educator- School Age provides a developmentally appropriate Reggio inspired and inclusive quality Daycare Program for children. A Childcare Educator- OSC performs all of the following duties:

  • Ensure curriculum and developmentally appropriate practices are in place in the daycare
  • Co-create programming with the staff team and children
  • Use innovative methods for documentation and curriculum design such as the use of anecdotal observations, finished products, photographs, and written dialogue
  • Attend meetings and workshops to develop and discuss program curriculum and work competencies
  • Interact with children and staff to encourage their involvement in activities
  • Have an understanding of typical developmental pathways

Safety

  • Be informed of and follow all licensing regulations and requirements
  • Use positive methods of discipline that is child-centered and respectful
  • Classroom monitoring
  • Ensure room is clean and toys are disinfected, furniture, equipment and toys are safe for children and cleaning products or medicines are kept where children cannot get to them

Community Culture

  • Be available to connect families with community resources
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with other community service providers
  • Establish and maintain good communications with families
  • Work collaboratively with volunteers and practicum students
  • May be required to work in other Kits House childcare programs to ensure continuity of care & ensure licensing regulations are met
  • Perform other duties (as needed)
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

HOURS & LOCATION

This is a regular part-time position (30 hours, 5 days/week) 7:30am-9:30am and 2:00pm – 6:00pm plus additional hours for all VSB Pro D and early dismissals days and requires a consistent in-person presence at one of our childcare locations.

Kits House Childcare Locations:

  • Kitsilano Neighbourhood House, 2305 West 7th Ave.
  • The Collective Childcare Centre, 2650 Maple St.

Start Date: September 2026

SALARY & BENEFITS

Competitive benefits package including vacation, paid sick time, group medical, pension and professional development opportunities; $20.54 – $25.25 per hour plus $6/ECE Wage Enhancement for those who qualify, depending on skills and experience level
