Job summary

RayCam Cooperative Centre in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside seeks an auxiliary childcare worker to support an enriched program for children aged 3–5 in daycare and 5–12 in out-of-school care.

You will plan age-appropriate activities, adapt for extra support needs, and collaborate with professionals to ensure safe, inclusive care for all children.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid BC Early Childhood Educator Certificate. A Special Needs Certificate is preferred.
• Experience working with special needs children in childcare settings is preferred.
• A current and valid First Aid certificate is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and leading age-appropriate programs for children in childcare and ensuring inclusive opportunities.
• Modify activities to support child development and social learning.
• Write precise individual care plans and reports in collaboration with outside professionals; liaise with families and staff.

Main Purpose and Function

This position assists in implementing an enriched childcare program located in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside that meets the needs of children three to five years of age in the daycare program, and children five to twelve years of age in the out of school care program. This position also provides opportunities for children who have extra support needs to be integrated in an inclusive setting.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include assisting in planning and leading age-appropriate programs for children in childcare and ensuring opportunities for children requiring extra support are part of the daily curriculum. This position assists in modifying activities that help with child development and social learning. Works with outside professionals; assists in writing individual care plans and reports. Builds and fosters positive and healthy relationships with children, families, and staff.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Must have a valid BC Early Childhood Educator Certificate. A Special Needs Certificate is preferred.
• Experience working with special needs children in childcare settings is preferred.
• A current and valid First Aid certificate is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Sound knowledge of the fundamentals of community childcare programs
• Knowledge and experience of community resources
• Previous experience writing precise individual care planning and reports
• Ability to plan and lead daycare curriculum/activities for differently abled children
• Experience with group dynamics and behavior management
• Sound knowledge of community care licensing requirements
• Demonstrated ability in supporting families living in the DTES of Vancouver is preferred
• Previous experience and documentation around child protection issues.
• Knowledge of safety practices, policies and regulations applicable to the work performed.
• Ability to liaise with relevant professionals and other groups.
• A class 4 driver’s license and second language would be an asset.

This is an auxiliary position; hours of work will vary 8:00 am – 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

A Police Records Check is a requirement of this position. A clearance requires the absence of any changes or convictions related to this position.

Salary Information: Pay Grade GR-012: $27.26 to $32.41 per hour
This position is eligible for the Provincial ECE Wage Enhancement, on top of the existing pay grade, for successful candidates certified with the ECE Registry.
