Job summary

YMCA BC in Vancouver is seeking an Early Childhood Educator for the Marpole YMCA Child Care location. This temporary, full-time role offers 35 hours weekly with shifts 7:15am–6:00pm and a start ASAP, ending December 24, 2026.

You will deliver the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum, create engaging activities, and foster strong relationships with families and colleagues while ensuring a safe, inclusive environment. Benefits include vacation, pension, extended medical and more.

Qualifications

  • Basic ECE certification from a program recognized in British Columbia.
  • ITE license from a program recognized in British Columbia is an asset.
  • Special Needs Educator (SNE) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality care and creative programming directly to the children.
  • Build meaningful and positive relationships with children and families.
  • Work with your team to create a supportive and safe environment for both staff and families.
  • Deliver high quality and age-appropriate programs based on the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum.
  • Ensure constant active supervision and collaborate as a team to facilitate smooth transitions between play areas.
  • Utilize the Weemarkable parent communication app to provide daily updates.
  • Keep a clean and safe environment in all program areas and spaces.
  • Follow YMCA, CCFL and licensing requirements including curriculum standards.

Location: Marpole YMCA Child Care (8188 Lord St, Vancouver, BC V6P 0G8)

Term: Temporary, Full-Time

Hours: 35 hours per week

Shift: Monday - Friday shifts will rotate between the hours of 7:15am - 6:00pm

Start Date: ASAP

End Date: December 24th, 2026

Salary: $31.56 per hour for ECE License. Includes an additional $6 per hour as per the Provincial Government Wage Enhancement Initiative.

Reports To: Team Lead

Union: This posting is governed by the collective agreement between YMCA Childcare centres and BCGEU Local 303

Nature & Scope

Early childhood educators (ECE, ECE-IT/ SN) and assistants at the YMCA ensure a safe and engaging environment for all children. By adhering to the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum, they design, and lead activities tailored to the interests and developmental stages of the children in their care. These educators also cultivate and maintain strong, positive relationships with parents, fellow educators, and community partners to deliver high-quality childcare within the communities we serve.

Major Responsibilities - in this position, you will :
  • Provide quality care and creative programming directly to the children
  • Build meaningful and positive relationships with children and families
  • Work with your team to create a supportive and safe environment for both staff and families
  • Deliver high quality andage-appropriateprograms based on the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum
  • Ensure constant active supervisor and collaborate as a team to facilitate smooth transitions between play areas.
  • Utilize our parent communication app ( Weemarkable ) toprovide daily communication and updates
  • Keep a clean and safe environment – in all program areas and common spaces
  • Follow all YMCA, Child Care Facility Licensing (CCFL) and legal requirements, including YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum standards
Qualification - you bring :
  • Basic ECE certification from a program recognized in British Columbia
  • Infant ToddlerEducator(ITE)License from a program recognized in British Columbiais an asset
  • Special NeedsEducator (SNE) isan asset
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Anytraining related to child growth anddevelopmentis an asset
  • Emergency First Aidand CPR-C & AED certificate required (to be obtained within 30days after the start date)
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.
