Job summary

Kitsilano Neighbourhood House is seeking a Casual Childhood Educator to support learning in a diverse, inclusive setting. You will join a collaborative team, delivering developmentally appropriate activities in licensed childcare, with emphasis on play-based learning and documentation.

The role requires RA/ECEA/ECE/ECEIT certificates and First Aid, and offers in-person hours at Kitsilano Neighbourhood House with a competitive benefits package for casual staff.

Responsibilities

As a casual/on-call educator, you are flexible, dependable, and able to adapt quickly to different classrooms while supporting consistent, high-quality learning experiences.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Working as part of a collaborative team, the Childcare Educator – Casual fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment where children are recognized as capable co-contributors, and where learning unfolds through play, exploration, and relationships. A Childcare Educator – Casual performs all of the following duties:

  • Ensure curriculum and developmentally appropriate practices are in place in the daycare
  • Co-create programming with the staff team and children
  • Use innovative methods for documentation and curriculum design, including anecdotal observations, finished products, photographs, and written dialogue
  • Attend meetings and workshops to develop and discuss program curriculum and work competencies
  • Interact with children and staff to encourage their involvement in activities
  • Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits
  • Demonstrate an understanding of typical developmental pathways

Safety

  • Be informed of and follow all licensing regulations and requirements
  • Use positive, child-centered, and respectful guidance practices
  • Monitor classrooms to ensure a safe and supportive environment
  • Ensure rooms are clean and that toys, furniture, and equipment are disinfected and safe for children

Community Culture

  • Contribute as a reliable team player by communicating clearly, assisting colleagues when needed, and supporting shared team goals
  • Establish and maintain strong communication with families
  • Work collaboratively with volunteers and practicum students
  • May be required to work in other Kitsilano Neighbourhood House childcare programs to ensure continuity of care and compliance with licensing regulations
  • Perform other duties as required
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in licensed childcare
  • Valid RA, ECEA, ECE, ECEIT certificate
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
  • Minimum age 19 years (as per licensing regulations)
WORKING CONDITION

This role requires the ability to meet physical demands that may include walking, lifting, moving supplies, setting up tables and chairs, and supporting daily program and space needs.

HOURS & LOCATION

This is a Casual position that requires a consistent in-person presence at Kitsilano Neighbouhood House Childcare Centre(s)

SALARY & BENEFITS

Competitive benefits package including vacation, paid sick time, group medical and pension and professional development opportunities. Career Level: C1 $19.84 – $25.25
