The Role

The Role

To lead and manage the Canadian Distributor and Customer Services financial control and reporting function, reporting to key stakeholders, including Executive, to assist with decision-making and influencing strategic business objectives.

Financial business partner providing commercial financial support to the Canadian leadership team.

To lead the development and enhancement of the control framework environment to a best practice level, whilst ensuring the best commercial outcomes for the Canadian business.

This role is a critical position of influence with high value input into both the Canada business, and the wider Global Finance group. The role is an integral part of the Canadian Management team requiring an intrinsic understanding of the commercial environment the business operates in.

You Will

Performance Management and Analysis

  • Responsible for providing and enhancing the internal performance reporting (monthly Business Unit reporting, Quarterly variance to forecasts and ad-hoc) to assist management decision-making, including influencing strategic business objectives.
  • Actively assist key stakeholders and relevant parties in interpreting financial information to drive understanding of essential data to in turn improve the performance of the business.
  • Proactive analysis of the Canadian Business Units (ME’s), including key business drivers, risk and opportunities.

Reporting and Internal Controls

  • The provision of management accounting services to the ME, primarily producing annual account, annual budgets, quarterly forecasts and assisting ME’s with their planning processes. Working with the ME on expenditure and promotional plans and actively providing recommendations.
  • Monitor business results against budget, quarterly targets and key milestones. Take action to improve the performance of the business and convey findings to the business, providing financial advice on future scenarios.
  • Ensuring group accounting policies and procedures are adhered to, and all legal and statutory requirements are fulfilled.
  • Timely and accurate reporting of all financial information in accordance with Group requirements, including monthly, half yearly and year end reporting packs.
  • Responsibility and ownership of the financial performance management framework, including ensuring effective internal controls in conjunction with Corporate and Internal Audit.

Strategic Financial Management

  • Provision of financial advice around business transactions. Supporting the sales, product and marketing teams to optimise planned activities.
  • Proactively conducts analysis of performance data to identify opportunities to capitalise on and improve competitive advantage.
  • Provision of support and analysis to pricing and terms of trade decisions.
  • Ensure currency hedging is in place to support the achievement of financial and commercial objectives and manage margin risk in accordance with policy
  • Oversight of cash flow and working capital management to maximise the use of the company’s assets

Planning

  • Responsible for the financial planning cycle, its interface into the strategic planning process and individual planning and forecasting processes. Provides key input into the ME’s Business Plan.
  • Managing the interface between the ME and the Company’s Finance Function, including liaising closely with the ME on resolving any issues.

Leadership

  • Role model Fisher & Paykel’s key leadership mental models and behaviour.
  • Provide leadership and clarity of expectations to direct reports to develop a strong Finance function for the ME.
  • Provide direct reports with the direction, coaching, feedback and support they need to enable high performance.
  • Understands Health & Safety matters that relate to the role and manages daily activities to fully comply with all H&S legislation, regulations and policies.

Operations & CEX Leadership

  • Fosters alignment of the Operations and CEX functional strategies to the leading goals of the Canadian ME.
  • Guides and influences the CEX and Operations Leaders to optimize operational efficiencies and effectiveness, ensuring achievement of KPI’s and performance targets.
  • Influence the sequencing of investments, the transparency of ROI and change management practices, ensuring sustainable outcomes.
  • Application of the above mentioned leadership responsibilities to the Operations and CEX functions.

You Have:

  • Proven & trusted leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to build a high performing culture and team, where diverse people thrive.
  • 10 years of experience in finance and accounting within a corporate environment
  • Commercial business acumen at a proficient to expert level.
  • Experience in a Distributor or Consumer Goods industries (preferred but not essential).
  • CPA Qualified
  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of the business operation and ways of working
  • Strong financial understanding and analytical skills
  • Ability to develop and apply the correct commercial and financial solution for the right situation and environment.
  • Ability to organise and control large accounting systems
  • Broad legal and commercial experience
  • High level understanding of taxation
