Job summary

Dollco Print Solutions Group is hiring a Bindery Operator, Perfect Binder, to join our Ottawa-based production facility in Ontario. You will set up and run perfect binding machinery, manage bindery consumables, and perform preventative maintenance while ensuring quality and safety.

The role emphasizes teamwork, integrity, and alignment with our long-standing customer-driven culture. The ideal candidate has experience with spine preparation, cover feeding, hot-melt/PUR glues, and inline trimming

Qualifications

  • Completion of secondary education or equivalent.
  • Specialized production knowledge of perfect binding systems, spine preparation, cover feeding, hot-melt/PUR glues, and inline trimmers.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude to set up, tune, and troubleshoot binder feeder pockets, milling/notching units, and glue pots.
  • High attention to detail regarding spine squareness, page sequence, and binding durability.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication to relay shift handovers and job information.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 35 pounds and stand for extended periods in a noisy production environment.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to excel in a fast-paced production facility with multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up and operating perfect binding machinery and automated finishing lines per project specs.
  • Managing binder consumables including hot-melt and PUR adhesives, cleaners, and spare parts.
  • Conducting preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Inspecting finished books for spine squareness, glue application, and page order; documenting results.
  • Recording production data, run speeds, waste, and job completion metrics.
  • Maintaining safety protocols and a clean, hazard-free work area.

SUMMARY

We are hiring a Bindery Operator, Perfect Binder, to join our Bindery team. This role will be a full-time, permanent position working out of our production facility in Ottawa, Ontario. We are looking for someone who is dedicated to team safety and well being, being respectful, and acting with integrity. We strive for excellence in everything we do! The ideal candidate will have experience in set-up, operation, and troubleshooting of perfect binding equipment, spine preparation, cover feeding, hot-melt/PUR adhesives, and inline trimming systems, and will align with our core values and company culture.

AS A BINDERY OPERATOR, PERFECT BINDER, YOU WILL MAKE YOUR IMPACT BY:
  • Setting up and operating perfect binding machinery and automated finishing lines according to project specifications, adjusting for paper caliper, book thickness, glue temperature, and trim dimensions.
  • Managing binder consumables, including hot-melt and PUR adhesives, cleaning solvents, and spare parts.
  • Conducting preventative maintenance on equipment, including glue pot cleanings, system lubrication, and blade/knife inspections.
  • Inspecting finished adhesive-bound books, magazines, and catalogues for quality defects (such as spine squareness, glue application, and page sequence accuracy) and documenting results.
  • Accurately recording production data, run speeds, waste, and job completion metrics.
  • Maintaining safety protocols and a clean, hazard-free work area in accordance with Dollco's Health and Safety Guidelines.
YOU CAN EXCEL AS A BINDERY OPERATOR, PERFECT BINDER, IF YOU HAVE:
  • A completion of secondary education and/or equivalent.
  • Specialized production knowledge of perfect binding systems, spine preparation, cover feeding, hot-melt/PUR glues, and inline trimmers.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude to set up, fine-tune, and troubleshoot perfect binder feeder pockets, milling/notching units, and glue pots.
  • High attention to detail regarding spine squareness, page sequence accuracy, and binding durability.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills to effectively relay shift handovers and job information.
  • The physical ability to lift up to 35 pounds, perform manual dexterity tasks, and stand for extended periods in a high-noise manufacturing environment.
  • The ability to read, understand, and follow instructions and procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to excel in a high-speed production facility, managing multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
