Travel: 10%

Job Overview

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results‑driven professional to join our Advanced Inspection & Maintenance (AIM) team in the role of Associate Engineer/Scientist/Tech Officer located in Bowmanville, Ontario. The position supports the Campaign Management department and the Associate Engineer will contribute to inspection and maintenance programs at Darlington Station facilities.

Key Accountabilities
  • Perform technical work in a designated segment of the assigned technical discipline(s) (e.g., chemistry, metallurgy, electrical, civil and mechanical engineering, physics, environmental science and computer engineering, etc.). Receive assignments from Supervisor with either established standing instructions and/or specific instruction on new or unusual aspects of the work. Proceed to carry out work assignments, referring to Supervisor to resolve serious problems arising in the course of the work and at designated stages of work progress).
  • Produce reports or other documents and/or presentations as required to portray results of studies carried out to present evidence to support conclusions drawn or recommendations advanced, and/or to provide a resource for supervisory reference and use.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and consultation to customers for the resolution of technical problems or for the establishment of new or revised technical programs. Obtain and analyze pertinent information and recommend, as appropriate, accomplish performance of tests, inspections, studies, etc., taking into account customers and departmental goals and objectives. Arrange meetings with groups involved to discuss issues. Develop proposals and produce recommendations for review by Supervisor and customer. Assist customer with implementation as assigned. Participate in post‑implementation assessment.
  • Attend and/or appear before government authorities, agencies, regulatory bodies and legislative hearings as requested to assist Supervisor or others making representations to secure, protect, or advance OPG interests.
  • As delegated, perform project management responsibilities for assigned projects involving well defined scope and requirements (e.g., inspection and maintenance projects). Provide day‑to‑day work directions to allocate technical staff, including work assignments, checking and instruction. Assist project staff the resolution of problems that arise in the course of the work.
  • Ensure that all work activities, programs, studies, and customer services reflect an awareness of associated legislated, corporate and departmental/divisional safety requirements and programs and are in compliance with same.
  • Keep abreast of latest developments in the assigned technical discipline through reference to technical publications and contacts with internal and external experts in the field.
  • Other Duties as Required
Qualifications
  • A four‑year university education in chemical, metallurgical, electrical, mechanical, civil, physics, etc. engineering and/or computer or environmental science.
  • Registered (in good standing), or eligible to be registered, and licensed to practice as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) in the Province of Ontario.
  • 4‑5 years of relevant experience.
  • Ideal candidates will have worked in a Nuclear Engineering environment.
  • Relevant project management work experience.
  • Experience and ability as a team player to understand and manage the interrelationships of various internal and external groups to facilitate objectives and ensure projects satisfy stakeholder requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable leading meetings and giving presentations.
  • Have a strong interest in fast‑paced, challenging work environments where showing initiative and self‑motivation are assets.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with maintenance and operation teams in technical support capacity.
  • Proven track record on delivering results.
  • Strong in understanding, executing and following governance and procedures with a questioning and analytical attitude/approach under minimum required supervision.
  • Knowledge of OPG’s ECC Process (Engineering Change Control) is an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible hybrid office environment.
