Overview

Department of Philosophy, University of Toronto Mississauga. Job category: Faculty (open rank) / Tenure-track or similar. Areas of Specialization (AOS): Language, Epistemology, Mind, Metaphysics. AOC: Language, Epistemology, Mind, Metaphysics. This is a full-time tenure-stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.

Departmental context: The University of Toronto Mississauga campus; tri-campus Graduate Department of Philosophy; graduate teaching and supervision typically on the St. George campus. The tri-campus department is recognized as a leading program in philosophy in Canada and internationally.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will: pursue innovative and independent research at a high international level; establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program; contribute to teaching and mentoring in undergraduate and graduate programs; demonstrate excellence in teaching through a teaching dossier and letters of reference. The role includes participation in department activities and contributions to equity, diversity, inclusion, and a respectful, collegial environment.

Qualifications

Required: PhD in Philosophy or a closely related field by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter; demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching; evidence of research excellence through publications, forthcoming works, conference presentations, awards, and strong endorsements from referees. Desired: research and teaching interests that complement and enhance existing departmental strengths in Language, Epistemology, Mind, Metaphysics; evidence of teaching excellence via the teaching dossier and reference letters; ability to establish an externally funded research program.

  • A research statement outlining current and future research interests;
  • Two recent writing samples;
