Open Ears is a Festival dedicated to fostering creativity and the art of listening. Founded on the idea that all people need art, its mission is to bring innovative, surprising, and delightful music and sound experiences to all people in the Waterloo Region.
The festival strives to create an inclusive musical culture. This means the careful selection of spaces, programming, and partners to provide astounding experiences for people of all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. These experiences might include concerts, performances, installations, sound walks, and other such presentations.

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Artistic Director (AD), Open Ears will lead the organization in the pursuit of artistic and innovative programming for the festival through presenting and commissioning new artistic works from local, national and international artists, and overseeing their development.
The AD will play a strong role in revenue generation and growth through government and foundation funding, corporate partnerships, major gifts, fundraising, planned/legacy giving and earned revenue initiatives, in collaboration with the General Manager, the board of directors and Fundraising committee.
The AD will be engaged in the local community arts scene and actively seek opportunities for new partnerships to develop the festival’s educational and community outreach programs. The AD will also be responsible for fostering and developing artistic partnerships with local, national, and international arts organizations as well as building strong and long-term relationships with both internal and external stakeholders including: board members, artists, audience members, donors, sponsors, volunteers, community members and organizations.
