Job summary

CNL invites students to join its Decommissioning & Waste Management group in Port Hope for a 4–8 month term. You will work onsite on an environmental remediation project, applying chemical/mechanical/process engineering concepts to water treatment systems and related operations.

The role emphasizes data collection, lab testing, and procedure updates, with collaboration across engineering teams and a focus on continuous improvement. This is a full-time, onsite student position in Ontario.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a recognized post-secondary program in Chemical/Mechanical/Process Engineering, Water Treatment, or Environmental Technology.
• Coursework relevant to water treatment or environmental systems is considered.
• Applicants should have access to a vehicle and a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Assist with experiments and field tests to evaluate process performance and improvements.
• Gather and analyze process data and maintain records and data management.
• Perform lab duties and routine testing to support plant operations.
• Update technical drawings to reflect current plant configurations.
• Support revision of standard operating procedures and development of technical reports.
• Collaborate with engineers and staff to identify optimization opportunities.

All students applying for student positions at CNL must be returning to full-time studies upon completion of their work term. Exceptions will be made for students who require a work term to graduate.

What you will be doing!

• Assisting with conducting experiments and field tests to evaluate operational improvements and process performance.
• Gathering and analyzing data through process metrics, testing activities, and field observations.
• Maintaining accurate records and supporting data management activities.
• Performing laboratory duties and conducting routine testing to support plant operations.
• Updating and modifying technical drawings to reflect current plant conditions and configurations.
• Assisting with the review and revision of standard operating procedures.
• Supporting the development of technical reports, documentation, and operational recommendations.
• Collaborating with engineers and technical staff to identify opportunities for process optimization and continuous improvement.
• Other duties as assigned by your manager.
  

What we are looking for:

• Education
  • Must be currently enrolled in a recognized post-secondary institution in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Water Treatment, Environmental Technology, or a related discipline. Candidates enrolled in other engineering or technical programs with coursework relevant to water treatment, environmental systems, or industrial processes will also be considered.
• Experience
  • Previous experience in water treatment or production environments would be an asset but is not required.
  • Experience conducting laboratory tests and experiments.
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient in MS Office/365 Software Suite i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical background and troubleshooting ability.
  • Applicants must posses a valid drivers license and have access to a vehicle.
• Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

• Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
