Job summary

CNL's health and safety, security, and emergency management student position in Port Hope is an 8‑month term focused on gaining hands‑on experience across construction, remediation, and critical infrastructure activities. You will work within the HWP Safety, Security & Emergency Preparedness department.

We seek students enrolled in OH&S, Emergency Management, or related fields who can contribute to inspections, reporting, and safety communications while developing essential professional skills

Qualifications

• Enrolled in or nearing completion of a post-secondary program in Occupational Health and Safety, Emergency Management, Security Management, or a related discipline.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Knowledge of Ontario health and safety legislation and workplace safety principles.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Participating in workplace inspections, field assessments, and audits of construction, remediation, and operational activities.
• Assisting with contractor safety oversight and verification of compliance with health, safety, security, and environmental requirements.
• Assisting in basic industrial hygiene monitoring and sampling activities under supervision.
• Participating in hazard assessments, risk evaluations, and Job Hazard Analysis development.
• Collecting, tracking, and analyzing occupational health and safety data using Microsoft Office and specialized systems.
• Preparing reports, presentations, safety communications, and awareness materials for workers and management.
• Participating in safety meetings, field walkdowns, and engagement activities with employees and contractors.
• Other duties as assigned by your manager.

Our Port Hope location is looking for a Health and Safety, Security, and Emergency Management Student to contribute to one of Canada's largest environmental remediation projects while developing valuable skills that will support your future career.

All students applying for student positions at CNL must be returning to full-time studies upon completion of their work term. Exceptions will be made for students who require a work term to graduate.

What you will be doing!

What we are looking for:

• Education
  • Enrolled in, or nearing completion of, a post-secondary program in Occupational Health and Safety, Emergency Management, Security Management, or a related discipline.
• Experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AI, Power-Bi, and Outlook.
  • Previous related work, volunteer, co-op, or practical experience is considered an asset.
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of Ontario health and safety legislation and workplace safety principles.
  • Demonstrated communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in both office and field environments.
• Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

• Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
