Job summary

Canadian Nuclear Laboratories in Chalk River, Ontario is seeking a Chemical Technologist Student for the Waste Processing Technologies Section to support research and development in waste process chemistry and environmental sustainability. This 8-month term requires returning to full-time studies after term.

You will conduct lab experiments, prepare solutions, coordinate analyses, and assist in data analysis and report writing, under supervision.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a post-secondary program in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science and Engineering.
• Basic laboratory-scale experiment experience.
• Willingness to learn under supervision to design experiments and develop procedures.
• Ability to coordinate analyses and prepare data for reports.

Responsibilities

• Conduct active and non-active lab experiments under supervision with high-temperature equipment and pilot-scale setups.
• Prepare chemical solutions and samples; coordinate analyses with partner laboratories.
• Participate in data analysis and assist in preparing summary reports for internal and external publications.
• Collaborate with team members and coordinate activities as needed.
• Perform general laboratory duties following safety procedures.

Can you see yourself contributing to research that supports a cleaner environment while gaining hands‑on experience in chemistry, process engineering, and waste treatment technologies? Our Chalk River Laboratories location is looking for a Chemical Technologist Student to join the Waste Processing Technologies Section, where you will support research and development activities focused on waste process chemistry, engineering technologies, and environmental sustainability.

All students applying for student positions at CNL must be returning to full‑time studies upon completion of their work term. Exceptions will be made for students who require a work term to graduate.

What you will be doing!

What we are looking for:

• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Basic computer skills with word processing and EXCEL spreadsheet knowledge.
  • Ability to learn under supervision to design experiments and develop procedures.
• Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

• Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
