Job summary

Canadian Nuclear Laboratories is offering a Winter Student Program – Maintenance Planning Student at the Whiteshell site in Manitoba. You will support maintenance planning activities, analyze data, review backlogs, and contribute to process improvements in a fully onsite role.

The position requires enrollment in a related post-secondary program and strong Excel/Power BI skills, with a focus on accuracy and effective communication.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in post-secondary engineering/technical program.
• Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint proficiency is required; Power BI/SharePoint is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication; attention to data accuracy.
• Security clearance: Reliability Status with site access (3–5 years of verifiable history).

Responsibilities

• Assist planners and schedulers with reviewing work orders and maintaining records.
• Support planning package preparation by gathering procedures, drawings, and reference material.
• Track work orders in planning, hold, and execution status.
• Assist with work order closeout reviews and documentation verification.
• Monitor preventative maintenance performance and compliance metrics.
• Review PM records for completeness and accuracy.
• Update PM templates and related documentation.
• Identify overdue PM activities and report trends.
• Other duties as assigned by the manager.

Do you enjoy organizing information and solving problems? Are you curious about how maintenance and asset management keep complex operations running safely and efficiently? Would you like to gain hands‑on experience with planning, data analysis, reporting, and continuous improvement in a professional industrial environment? If you answered yes, then this may be the job for you! Our Whiteshell location is looking for a Maintenance Planning Student to work alongside experienced Work Control professionals, supporting maintenance planning activities, managing and analyzing data, assisting with preventative maintenance programs, reviewing maintenance backlogs, and contributing to process improvement initiatives.

All students applying for student positions at CNL must be returning to full‑time studies upon completion of their work term. Exceptions will be made for students who require a work term to graduate.

What you will be doing!

• Assisting planners and schedulers with reviewing work orders and maintaining records.

What we are looking for:

• Education
  • Currently enrolled in a post secondary education in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, Asset Management, Project Management,Data Analytics, Operations Management, Related Engineering or Technical Programs.
• Experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Power BI, SharePoint, databases, or data analytics tools would be considered an asset.
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Ability to interpret and organize large amounts of information.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

• Working schedule: Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day for a forty (40) hour work week.
