Jobgether SRL in Brazil is seeking a Senior Java Backend Developer to evolve established Java systems, drive refactoring, and deliver scalable features in a SaaS environment. You will pair program, review code, and own delivery quality while collaborating with product and engineering teams.

This fully remote role values autonomy, modern engineering practices, and an interest in AI-powered tooling. Candidates should be proficient in Java 6/8/11, Spring, and testing with JUnit, with Solid coding

This is a senior backend engineering opportunity focused on evolving established Java systems while delivering reliable, scalable, and maintainable solutions. You will contribute to refactoring initiatives, architectural improvements, and the development of new product capabilities within a SaaS environment. The role combines hands-on development with technical ownership, requiring you to participate in implementation, testing, code reviews, and solution validation. You will work closely with engineering and product teams while helping shape technical decisions and supporting the development of other engineers. The position also offers the opportunity to work with AI-powered development tools and explore how artificial intelligence can improve engineering productivity and business outcomes. This is a fully remote role suited to an experienced Java professional who enjoys complex systems, continuous improvement, and understanding business domains deeply.

• Evolve established Java systems by contributing to refactoring initiatives, architectural improvements, and the delivery of new product features.

• Perform evolutionary and corrective maintenance while continuously improving code quality, readability, maintainability, and overall system health.

• Participate actively in defining technical solutions alongside engineering and product teams, contributing technical expertise to architectural and implementation decisions.

• Take ownership of delivery quality across implementation, automated testing, code review, and validation of proposed solutions.

• Operate with a high degree of technical autonomy, acting as a reference point within the team and supporting other developers in their technical development.

• Apply modern engineering practices such as pair programming, code reviews, continuous refactoring, and continuous improvement.

• Develop and maintain backend APIs using Java and Spring within established application architectures.

• Analyze complex existing codebases, identify improvement opportunities, and execute refactoring initiatives while minimizing risks to existing functionality.

• Work with a strong understanding of business-domain requirements, particularly financial rules and processes, to ensure technical solutions effectively address real business needs.

• Use AI-powered tools and resources to support software development, improve productivity, and explore new approaches to engineering challenges.

• Stay curious about emerging technologies and actively investigate how artificial intelligence can transform processes, user experiences, and business results.

Requirements:

• Have solid professional experience developing applications with Java, including practical experience with Java 6, 8, and 11.

• Have experience developing and evolving Java applications within monolithic architectures and working with established, complex codebases.

• Demonstrate strong experience with Spring for building and maintaining APIs.

• Have hands-on experience with unit and integration testing using JUnit.

• Demonstrate strong knowledge of software engineering best practices, including Clean Code, SOLID principles, sound design practices, and systematic refactoring.

• Be capable of reading, analyzing, understanding, and safely refactoring complex existing code.

• Have knowledge of or practical experience with frontend development using React.

• Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, technical autonomy, and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering and product teams.

• Be comfortable participating in pair programming and code reviews while providing constructive technical feedback.

• Have an interest in artificial intelligence technologies, including AI tools, applications, and fundamental concepts.

• Demonstrate curiosity, a continuous-learning mindset, and an interest in applying emerging technologies to software development.

• Familiarity with Spec Driven Development (SDD) is considered a valuable advantage.
