Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) is seeking a senior strategist to join the Strategy team to shape Australia's energy future. You will translate long-term strategy into actionable 1–3 year priorities, lead strategic planning, and align with financial and investment objectives, working with senior leaders and a high-performing team.

Qualifications

• Experience in strategy development, corporate planning, or management consulting, ideally within the energy sector or a regulated utility environment.
• Ability to translate strategy into actionable plans and develop compelling justification for initiatives that deliver stakeholder and organisational value.
• Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and structure complex challenges.
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including experience preparing materials for Executive, Board, and external audiences.
• Ability to build strong relationships, drive cross-functional collaboration, and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead AEMO's annual strategic and corporate planning process, translating long-term strategy into actionable 1–3 year priorities and initiatives.
• Partner with senior leaders across the organisation to align strategic priorities with divisional plans, financial outcomes, and investment decisions.
• Develop compelling justifications for strategic initiatives, clearly linking to stakeholder value and organisational outcomes.
• Oversee and articulate strategic performance reporting, monitor progress against key initiatives, and drive improvements in planning frameworks.
• Prepare high-quality Board and Executive materials, while mentoring junior team members and fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
