Job summary

Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) is leading Australia’s energy transition. The Strategy team shapes the nation’s energy future by translating long-term priorities into actionable plans and ensuring alignment with financial and investment objectives.

Reporting to the General Manager Strategy, you will oversee the annual strategic and corporate planning process, mentor junior staff, and prepare materials for Board and Executive audiences.

Qualifications

• Experience in strategy development, corporate planning, or management consulting within the energy sector or regulated utilities.
• Ability to translate strategy into actionable plans and justify initiatives for stakeholder and organizational value.
• Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills with ability to navigate ambiguity.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills for executive, board and external audiences.
• Ability to build relationships and drive cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead annual strategic and corporate planning, translating long-term strategy into 1–3 year priorities and initiatives.
• Partner with senior leaders to align priorities with divisional plans, financial outcomes, and investment decisions.
• Develop compelling justifications for initiatives linking to stakeholder value and organizational outcomes.
• Oversee strategic performance reporting and drive continuous improvement in planning and reporting frameworks.
• Prepare high-quality Board and Executive strategy materials and mentor junior team members.
