We are looking for an experienced Store Manager [Retail Manager (General)] to lead daily store operations and support our team to deliver excellent customer service.

The Role As Store Manager [Retail Manager (General)] you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of T Fresh, a family-owned grocery and fresh fruit and vegetable store serving customers in Goulburn and surrounding areas. The role plans and oversees store operations, staff supervision, merchandising, stock control, budgeting and compliance so that the business runs efficiently, meets financial targets and provides friendly, reliable service to local customers in a clean and safe environment.

Task & responsibilities

Lead day-to-day store operations including opening/closing, shift handovers, cashing up, checklist completion, and consistent floor coverage across front counter and fresh produce. Deliver strong customer service by handling escalations, coaching staff on greetings, upselling, queue control, and maintaining a welcoming community-focused environment. Maintain store standards by ensuring presentation, cleanliness and displays meet requirements, with regular checks of aisles, refrigeration and produce areas. Plan range and manage inventory for grocery, chilled and fresh produce based on demand, seasonality and competition, in consultation with the owners. Oversee ordering, receiving and stock rotation ensuring correct quantities/pricing, safe storage, date-code compliance, food labelling standards, and minimal wastage. Monitor stock performance using reports and shelf availability to adjust orders/merchandising, reduce out-of-stocks, and improve turnover of slow-moving items. Manage suppliers and purchasing by liaising with wholesalers/markets to secure reliable supply, competitive pricing and promotional support, and resolving supply issues quickly. Set and review retail pricing to meet margin targets while remaining competitive, using cost, competitor and customer insights. Drive sales and promotions by tracking daily/weekly performance, running in-store specials and seasonal campaigns, ensuring ticketing/displays are correct and staff are briefed. Support local marketing and community engagement by promoting specials and initiatives via the T Fresh Facebook page and local channels, and building relationships with regular customers and nearby groups. Support financial control and reporting by assisting with budgets, monitoring wages vs rosters/sales, and maintaining accurate records for stocktakes, invoices, credits and wastage. Oversee cash handling and security including till procedures, safe control, banking, reconciliations, and investigating discrepancies and security incidents. Supervise and develop the team through rostering, recruitment support, induction, on-the-job coaching (POS, product knowledge, rotation, manual handling, conflict resolution) and performance management. Ensure compliance and safety with NSW food safety, WHS and company policies through routine checks, hazard rectification, incident/audit records, and after-hours/security procedures. Reporting: Reports to Business Owners; leads retail team members including produce staff and cashiers.

Qualification & experience

To be considered, you will have: Minimum 2 years’ recent experience in grocery/supermarket/convenience retail in a leadership/management role. Proven ability to manage daily store operations, rosters, opening/closing, and shift handovers. Skills in inventory control, stock management, merchandising, and maintaining full, appealing displays, including expiry checks and waste reduction. Experience training and supervising staff and delivering high customer service standards. Excellent customer relationship skills, including empathetic complaint handling, problem-solving, and retention. Sound knowledge of retail safety, security, and compliance requirements. Understanding of food safety and WHS obligations in a retail setting. Qualification: A formal business, commerce or retail management qualification at Bachelor or higher level. Higher degrees such as a Master of Business Administration or similar is highly regarded.
